Non Destructive Testing Expert - New applications Research
Linkebeek, Brussels, Belgium – Non Destructive Testing
Are you excited about embarking on a journey with us towards a carbon-neutral world?
We are seeking a collaborative colleague who is passionate about making a positive impact on ENGIE Laborelec's success and overall performance. If you have a deep interest in the energy transition, power generation and technology, we urge you to explore this opportunity.
Bring your expertise, grow with us and build your career in a safe and diverse environment.
Who are we?
ENGIE Laborelec is a research and expertise centre focused on electrical power technology, with a team of over 380 employees from different backgrounds. We are part of the ENGIE Group, and more particularly the entity ENGIE Research & Innovation. We support the entire electricity value chain, providing customized solutions to a diverse range of customers from various fields and industries. We are dedicated to achieving a net zero carbon future and finding sustainable solutions.
About the team
Our Non Destructive Testing team performs the following tasks:
- Researching, at the customer's request, new developments in techniques and the testing of certain applications using both conventional NDT methods and alternative techniques such as hyperspectral imaging, thermography, fibre-optics etc. for industrial applications (around 40%);
- Developing our own inspection techniques for very specific niche applications (around 20%);
- Assisting with Root Cause Analyses, whether on site, in our laboratory or as demanded (around 20%);
- Monitoring the quality control of NDT inspections carried out by third parties (around 20%), mainly for larger (nuclear) power plants.
In our acceleration towards a carbon-neutral society, NDT related questions for renewable assets are expected to rise, requiring knowledge and insights in, for example, typical flaws in composites, polymer materials and Additive Manufactured materials ... An increase in the demand for more specialised NDT, like robotized inspections is also expected.
What you’ll be doing
Your responsibilities as NDT Expert – New Applications Research (F/M/X)
- You participate largely in the research and development of our own inspection techniques , although assistance with the other operational tasks will also be required from time to time.
- You will work on both research-oriented projects for ENGIE R&I, EU, ESA and more practical-oriented projects relating to national and international assignments for nuclear power plants, conventional power plants and renewable energy parks.
- As a project leader, you will coordinate (both technically and organizationally) the tasks assigned to you. This involves drawing up a schedule, managing budgets and monitoring the technical progress and quality.
- You will also deal with customers: developing a task's scope, preparing an offer, and maintaining close contact while the project is being performed and afterwards.
- You will help to design and develop solutions to our customers' NDT problems and will keep abreast of new developments in the field.
- You will carry out projects assigned to the team, whether theoretical (studies) or practical (laboratory or on site).
To fill this role we are looking for a team player who is not afraid to accept new challenges and solve non-standard NDT issues. An out-of-the-box mindset will be highly beneficial.
You will work alongside a supportive team, and will have access to professional development opportunities to help you grow in your career.
If you identify with any of the following, we encourage you to apply!
Do you have?
- An Engineering degree or a PhD with at least 2 years' experience in non-destructive testing.
- Knowledge of Ultrasonic Testing
- Team player instincts, sharing experience and knowledge with colleagues and asking for help when appropriate.
- Good analytical skills and enjoy solving problems in a creative way.
- Proficiency, in English, with a willingness to learn Dutch or French.
- The ability to travel for on-site work and attend seminars, both locally and internationally.
Additional valuable experiences: laser UT, fiber optic monitoring, hyperspectral imaging, Structural Health Monitoring, thermography, robotics, knowledge of composite materials, polymers, concrete or Additive Manufactured materials (typical flaws), ISO9712 qualifications in conventional NDT techniques and Nuclear clearance are all a plus.
