The mission of the Flex Generation & Retail Global Business Unit (F-GBU) is to contribute to ENGIE’s development and accompany the energy transition, with renewables balancing and industry decarbonation. To achieve this, the GBU will leverage on the industrial and digital expertise of its 15,000 engaged employees.

The GBU has three main activities, with a common challenge/opportunity around the decrease of CO2 emissions:

- Flex Gen: 60 GW of power production capacities – mainly from gas – and power storage; and world #1 in water desalination

- Supply: 22 million B2C contracts of power & gas sales and associated services in 5 main countries; energy access benefitting to 6 million lives in Africa

- Hydrogen: large-scale green hydrogen production and a role of hydrogen coordination within ENGIE

- Battery storage: the newly created BESS cockpit aims to build a portfolio of 10 GW of batteries capacity by 2030.

In Flex Gen, the GBU targets to maintain its operational excellence and reach 90% availability for its fleet. A clear roadmap towards a green portfolio has been set including selective growth in focused geographies and coal exit by 2025 in Europe and 2027 in the World.

In B2C Supply, the GBU aims at increasing the share of services and power sales, while reducing CO2 emissions by 34% from 2017 to 2030 (incl. B2B Supply).

The GBU targets the long-term development of hydrogen, with an objective to build a green hydrogen production capacity portfolio of 4 GW by 2030.

 

The F-GBU HQ is recruiting : A Process Safety & Risk Engineer

(Based in Paris)

 

 

 

ROLE

• Steer and support the new projects on Process Safety through conceptual up to operational readiness, including also Hydrogen projects.

• Champion the process safety and technological risk during engineering and execution phases of those projects.

• Ad hoc support on Process Safety Management on existing operational assets and entities.

 

RESPONSIBILTIES

 

Compliance with laws and regulations

• Interpret regulatory requirements for different countries and ensure that the appropriate HSE studies are developed during the project phases in a timely manner (particularly those required for the permitting process),

• Validate requests submitted for exemption from application of reference procedures.

 

Process Safety Management and risk evaluation during DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION activities

• Ensure that Process Safety Management principles and best practices are implemented early in the design phase of each project

• Ensure that a risk based approach is undertaken to the development of the project (which may be over and above the basic prescriptive requirements of the country)

• Define the list and contents of process safety deliverables required for the scope of the project and regulatory requirements

• Prepare/review/validate the Scope of Work for the engineering contractors

• Prepare and evaluate the HSE prequalification questionnaires and support the bid assessment processes

• Liaise with the client / partner in terms of permitting support and interfaces on HSE

• Issue/validate studies performed prior to submission to authorities for the permitting process

• Oversight the EPC contractors / Owner Engineers on Process Safety Management

• Review and comment HSE/safety deliverables issued by the contractors

• Track progress on projects ensuring that deliverables are undertaken in a timely manner and at the required quality

• Participate proactively in HSE workshops and monitor, follow up and assess agreed recommendations and ensure their implementation

• Interpret and make recommendations based on findings of the safety studies (QRA / Fire and Explosion studies or similar) to ensure that those can meet the requirement by the local regulatory authorities and Engie’s minimum requirements.

• Provide support in writing the Operational and Safety Manual

• Identify hazards using recognized identifications techniques (HAZID, FMEA, HAZOP, QRA, FERA, SIL)

• Undertake consequence modelling as part of the premilitary assessment of projects or to validate findings of studies undertaken by third parties

• Assess and implement safeguards appropriate for the hazards being considered (like inherent safety in design, active and passive fire protection, human factors engineering…)

• Undertake risk assessment to determine whether safeguards are adequate to mitigate hazards (SIL, LOPA, fault tree…)

 

Process Safety Management and risk evaluation during COMMISSIONING and OPERATIONS activities

• Prepare, direct or participate in HSE studies and risk assessments undertaken for commissioning, start up and operation of the projects

• Lead Process Safety Incidents Investigations and track implementation of recommendations

 

  CRITICAL SKILLS

• Analytical thinking, writing and reporting skills

• Good to excellent understanding of operational safety

• Excellent command of Process Safety engineering principles for onshore gas plants

• Experienced in consequence modelling techniques

• Demonstrate effective understanding and application of safety regulations and procedures appropriate to the gas industry

• Demonstrate understanding and application of process safety principles in reducing public risk

• Demonstrate understanding and experience of defining emergency actions for hazard identified

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Qualification: Chartered Chemical/Process Safety engineering degree

• Professional experience:

  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role,
  • Minimum of 5 years in use and interpretation of process hazard analysis software such as PHAST or equivalent,
  • Minimum of 7 relevant years in energy or petro-chemical or gas projects.

• Experience in French regulatory requirements/studies (etude de danger) an advantage

• Proven Experience in hydrogen is considered as an advantage.

Als Project Manager Nuclear beheer en monitor je het ontwerp en/of de uitvoering van onze nucleaire  ontmantelingsprojecten.  Je stelt de ontwerp- en investeringsbudgetten op en consolideert deze voor het project als geheel.   • Na overleg met de experten van Tractebel definieer je de taken en machtig je je projectteam (dat je functioneel aanstuurt) om deze uit te voeren;
  • Je coördineert de acties voor raakvlakken tussen disciplines en je waakt over de adequate integratie van de verschillende specialisaties in het project;
  • Je monitort het project ten einde de afgesproken scope op te leveren binnen contractuele deadline en budget;

Werkomgeving

 

Binnen de Tractebel Business Area Global Nuclear, kom je terecht in het departement dat verantwoordelijk is voor de Tractebel projecten die we uitvoeren in opdracht van Electrabel. Dit departement is verantwoordelijk voor alle projecten die verband houden met de ontmantelingsprojecten. Deze projecten kunnen betrekking hebben op pre-haalbaarheidsstudies tot en met de uiteindelijke ingebruikname van de installaties, inclusief haalbaarheids-, ontwerp-, inkoop- en realisatieactiviteiten op locatie.

Minimale vereisten:

  • een Master diploma in Engineering;

DE WERKOMGEVING

 

De afdeling is verantwoordelijk voor alle projecten met betrekking tot de studies en de aanpassingen van bestaande Belgische kerncentrales (Doel/Tihange), inclusief LTO-projecten (Long Term Operation). Deze projecten kunnen gaan van de pre-haalbaarheidsstudies tot de uiteindelijke indienststelling van de installaties, inclusief haalbaarheidsstudies, ontwerp, aankoop en on-site realisatieactiviteiten.

 

Binnen dit departement ben je verantwoordelijk voor projecten (studies en/of aanpassingen) met betrekking tot de kerncentrales in België, met een focus op LTO Ageing (EI&C, mechanische en civiele werken).

 

JOUW TAKEN

 

  • Je beheert / volgt het ontwerp en/of de uitvoering van het project op;
  • Je laat de ontwerp- en investeringsbudgetten opstellen en consolideert deze voor het project in zijn geheel. Je bepaalt het algemene tijdschema, je controleert de diensten die voor het project worden geleverd en je bewaakt de voortgang wat betreft het halen van de leveringstermijnen en de verwachte rentabiliteit;
  • Na overleg met de experts definieer je de taken en geef je je projectteam (dat je functioneel leidt) de bevoegdheid om ze uit te voeren;
  • Je organiseert vergaderingen met de klant en ondersteunt de klant, als partner, bij het leveren van de toegevoegde waarde van Tractebel aan het project;
  • Je verzorgt de interne contacten met de competence centers en ondersteunende departementen (juridisch, financieel, IT, risicobeheer, communicatie, ...);
  • Je coördineert de acties op de interfaces tussen disciplines en u controleert de adequate integratie van de verschillende specialiteiten in het project;
  • Je verzorgt de technische en commerciële contacten met de eventuele klanten en partners en je definieert waar nodig commerciële acties;
  • Je zorgt voor de relevante administratieve taken met betrekking tot de procedures met de ondersteuning van een Project Assistent;
  • Voor de projecten waar je bent aangesteld als 'Project Engineer', ondersteun je de Project Manager of Project Director bij het uitvoeren van alle bovenstaande taken.

 

JOUW PROFIEL

 

  • Je hebt een ingenieursdiploma ;
  • Je hebt minstens 5 jaar ervaring als projectmanager of assistent-projectmanager, en je hebt kennis van de processen van Engineering (opeenvolgende fasen, contractuele aanpak, ...)
  • Kennis van Belgische kerncentrales is een sterke troef ;
  • Je moedertaal is Nederlands en je spreekt vloeiend Engels ;
  • Je bent resultaatgericht, je hebt een sterke klantgerichtheid, je bent een teamspeler in een veranderende omgeving ;
  • Je bent dynamisch, flexibel, stressbestendig, nauwgezet ;
  • Je werkt op het hoofdkantoor in Brussel met regelmatige bezoeken aan de Belgische kerncentrale (Doel) en af en toe bezoeken buiten België ;
  • BA4, VCA, Habilitation to access nuclear sites zijn vereist.

Mission:

In full coordination with the Regional HUB Chief security officer, the Country Security Manager leads, coordinates, plans, implements, and organizes security-related activities for all GBUs and other ENGIE entities operating in their country (or area) of responsibility.

In their country (or area of responsibility), they are the pivotal element for all security-related matters, whether they concern the Group or third parties that collaborate with it. They cooperate with all interested parties and actively participate, within the framework of their functions, in protecting our employees, our infrastructures, and our information against malicious acts by ensuring the definition and implementation of prevention/protection measures that mitigate the security risk to an acceptable level.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise the country managing director and managers of GBUs (or other Engie entities) operating in the country on security issues,
  • Ensure that the Group's security policy is deployed in their country and that their security action plan is aligned with this policy and with the related Group Guidelines,
  • Maintain and develop liaison with all Engie local entity personnel and, if necessary, with local administrations and appropriate government/military agencies
  • Maintain and develop a dialogue with the security managers by participating in the bimonthly "security gathering”, by regularly transmitting to the Regional HUB CSO the information needed to fill in the security incident reporting tool (or by feeding the tool himself/herself) and by reporting any notable event,
  • Proactively identify, monitor, and respond to potential and actual threats to ENGIE employees, assets, and facilities in their country (or area of responsibility) and provide alerts on immediate threats and emerging trends to managers and, if necessary, to their Regional HUB CSO for informed decision making,
  • Monitor local regulations, technologies, and threats, contribute to the DSIE "threat watch" and facilitate exchanges between the DSIE (and more specifically its business intelligence unit) and the entities/managers for whom the "competitive intelligence" information is relevant,
  • Ensure that appropriate physical protection measures are implemented85 (badges, cameras, alarms, electronic/physical locks, etc.)
  • Ensure a secure environment for employees, and in particular, for local employees and expatriates, and provide travel advice88 to business travelers on assignment (including local security alerts),
  •  Participate in the protection of sensitive and/or strategic information by raising staff awareness, by mapping this data in liaising with all internal or external entities concerned (and in particular DPOS/CDPMS, CISOS, risk officers, internal control officers, and local authorities for documents classified as "national security"), by contributing to the implementation of the group's information classification, and by conducting or participating in investigations when a leak of sensitive information is identified, preparing to manage a security crisis (or participating in a crisis unit which includes a "security" issue),
  • Participate in the annual internal control exercise (self-assessment), in coordination with the regional HUB CSO, identify gaps and develop risk mitigation plans, lead and manage the "security" aspects of major group events in their country, in liaise with their regional HUB CSO when necessary,
  • Developing, if necessary and in conjunction with their regional HUB CSO, country-specific security policies, procedures, and plans to maintain appropriate security, in compliance with group security rules and local regulations,
  •  Regularly perform, with the support of their regional HUB CSO, third party “audits” (security providers) and/or due diligence94 (subcontractors, private security companies...) And share the result with their regional HUB CSO and the DSIE when necessary,
  • Collaborate with business developers to identify risks related to their projects and operations (current or future) and propose appropriate solutions to mitigate them,
  • Participate - in liaising with the regional HUB CSO - in the annual mapping of security risks, listing all identified risks (on people, infrastructure, and information) for their country (or area of responsibility) and transmitting the elements to the regional HUB CSO,
  • Share with the regional HUB CSO, the DSIE, and the security network, the lessons learned from feedback.
  • Lead crisis management efforts with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the effective integration of site procedures into the overall crisis management system.

 

Profile: 

  • Master’s degree, in security or equivalent
  •  At least 5 years of experience as a security manager in police, military, or security within an industrial group.
  • French and English proficiency (Arabic is a plus).
  • Good people management skills;
  • Flexible, meticulous, good planner, and organizer. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and be proactive. 
  • You think outside the box and dare to challenge the status quo;

What You Can Expect

As a Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Advisor, you will report to Congestion Trading Director and will develop long term grid scenarios for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO)/Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint and forecast nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.

 

  • Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
  • Execute production cost models - Day-Ahead Locational Market Clearing Prices Analyzer (Dayzer) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits)
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
  • Participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree in which you completed courses in relevant disciplines (Engineering/Business/Finance etc.)
  • A minimum of seven years professional experience
  • A minimum of five years of grid planning or wholesale electricity market experience in CAISO/WECC or relevant ISO
  • Strong understanding of power grid optimization, powerflow shift factors, line-outage distribution factors and contingency analysis
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Clear and effective communicator
  • Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
  • Proficient in coding such as Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques

Compensation

As the Senior Civil Engineer is a key player of a diverse team developing cutting-edge energy storage solutions. This role includes working with development, and electrical design teams to provide innovative, forward thinking design solutions to facilitate the development, design, and construction of battery energy storage systems. This position is part of the Flexible Generation & Retail Global Business Unit (FGBU) in North America.

 

  • Every day you will work with the design team to create site layouts and civil land development design in AutoCAD for utility battery energy storage projects
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes
  • Involved with the resolution of design challenges that may include performing field investigation or observations and when necessary resolving discrepancies between multiple sources of information
  • Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
  • Interact with contractors for site studies, define scope and evaluate the work product
  • Must keep up to date on new technologies and regulatory conditions including codes, industry standards, best practices, customer requirements, and other relevant standards

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or similar applicable work experience is required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in design and drafting utilizing AutoCAD and/or Civil3D
  • Proficiency in the creation of civil land development layout including grading, site drainage, and access road design
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
