As a Quantitative Analyst, you will be fully integrated into our Options Trading Desk (which is part of ENGIE Global Energy Management & Sales business unit). Your main duties will include:

- Developing and implementing quantitative models to support trading strategies.

- Collaborating with the trading team to understand their needs and provide quantitative insights.

- Enhancing existing pricing frameworks and developing new pricing tools.

- Creating strategies for risk management and cross-hedging.

- Promoting best coding practices and ensuring compliance with our standards.

 

Who Are You

You have a strong foundation in Financial Mathematics, with a solid grasp of probabilities, stochastic calculus, and numerical methods. Your expertise in object-oriented programming is complemented by a keen interest in the mathematical models that drive financial markets. You excel at breaking down complex problems and delivering clear, actionable solutions.

You are autonomous, adaptable, and thrive in collaborative environments.

A degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or Financial Engineering is required. While experience in commodity markets is a plus, it is not mandatory. Proficiency in both French and English, along with strong programming skills in C# and Python, is essential.

What you will do:

Activity Setup / Project Management:

  • Data Collection and Model Creation: You will gather sufficient data, make it available, and create associated models to forecast prices and other relevant metrics.
  • Analytics: You will develop and deploy necessary analytics (dashboards, etc.) to support the performance of the activity.

  • Working Hours: Night shift and weekends required.

Trading / Operations:

  • You will execute the Intraday Desk strategies by trading electricity and capacity on specific markets and auction platforms, within internal mandates and risk limits.
  • You will participate in research and development of new trading strategies, both proprietary and asset backed for Wind, Solar and Battery Storage.
  • You will provide market access for ENGIE Group and/or other third parties.
  • You will optimize the balancing costs for ENGIE portfolios, including end users and renewable energy sources, whether they are owned or third-party assets.
  • You will cooperate with lateral desks such as PW Trading, ST, Green Desk, and Costing to prioritize and execute the best strategies.
  • You will build up the books and ensure accurate booking for the monitored positions.
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with a range of counterparties, Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution System Operators (DSOs), and local exchanges.

 

Desired education, expertise, and skills:

  • 1-3 year-experience in running a supply and/or generation portfolio and/or a proprietary book;
  • Experience in project management and IT projects deployment;
  • Experience in energy markets and trading algorithms/ strategy development: proficient power markets knowledge on Romanian and SEE markets;
  • Fluent in English. French and/or Romanian are a plus;
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills: proficiency in data science, data analysis. Python proficiency expected;
  • Strong organizational and team leadership abilities;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • High level of initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

What You Can Expect

The Director of Processes and Projects will report directly to the Supply & Energy Management (SEM) - US VP of Commercial Operations. What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in which you completed courses in relevant field (Engineering, Business, Supply Chain and Operations Management, etc.)
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience working in, or a combination of, operations, business transformation, operational improvement, project management, and/or special projects
  • Self-starter and creative thinker to be able to address problems and find solutions
  • Understanding of business process requirements, data requirements, as well as software and systems associated with power and gas transactions and optimization of physical renewable generation and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets in US markets

Compensation

Context:

As Short Term Trader, you will play a pivotal role within the Short Term Trading desk, organized within the Short term Power as a Service.

The mission of Short Term Trading is to maximize  the revenues of  the ENGIE  power portfolio within the CWE region and maximize the value of intraday trading activities in the developing pan-European Intraday markets. As an intraday trader, your key responsibility is to multitask and be able to take decisions on a very short time frame based on a large dataset.

These activities are executed within a sub team of 9 people organized continuous 24/7 and taking up both Trading & optimization activities.

You will interact very closely with the Algorithmic trading development team.

 

Role:

In the role of Short Term Trader, you will be responsible for: 

  • Maximizing the CWE power portfolio revenues in intra-day, including renewable management, sales exposure and asset flexibility
  • Leveraging on our market expertise in order to maximize the value of our trading activities.
  • You will act as a single window to the intraday Market in order to cover the real time physical needs of our clients and re-optimize the asset portfolio against the intraday power market prices.
  • Develop strategies to maximize revenues and minimize the costs for our clients over the different time horizons of the short term chain
  • Develop cross-maturity models which can serve the portfolio of assets, intermittency, DSM and develop efficient strategies to capture trading opportunities on those different markets.
  • Delivering 3rd party services for external Customers.
  • Ensuring correct and timely delivered reporting of portfolio and market activities.
  • You work in a 24/7 shift system.

You will report on a regular basis to the Head of Short Term Trading.

 

Profile:

Mission:

Degree/Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering /Mathematics /Data science;

  • Knowledge of energy markets is a plus;

Context:

The position belongs to the Quantitative Data Analysts team in Belgium (Brussels) specifically dedicated to assist the management of risks for belgian B2C and B2B Energy Suppliers.

As a member of the quantitative analysts community of the Business Platform Downstream, one can also contribute to transversal projects impacting the activity of other commercial BUs.

The main missions associated with the position are :

  • Based on data collection and analysis, to build models, tools, processes and data representations, that are used to manage the commodity risks linked to the dynamics of a Supply portfolio
  • The purpose of this work is to operate and optimize costing, forecasting, sourcing and hedging strategies, within a defined mandate

The quantitative analyst / data scientist will do the design, but also the development and ensure the delivery of these models and tools. Beyond that, he will also provide scientific expertise for bespoke analysis, related to data or models.

    • Representation of all commodity exposures and associated risks (evolution of the commercial position, climatic impact on short term consumption forecasts, ...)
    • New commercial offers
    • Customer behavior analysis
  • Ensure the run of models and derived operations
  • Provide BUs B2C and B2B Belgium with a deep knowledge of its commodity sales portfolios (Natural Gas, Power and Certificates) and optimally structure the portfolio representation
  • Use large range of data to ensure correct representation  
  • Promote good practice, especially around data and code
  • Ensure code quality by following general rules and standards
  • Interact with other quantitative analysts/data scientists, to exchange about models, data, business or technical topics beyond the team

 

Hard skills:

  • Must have:
    • Strong scientific background: mathematics (probability/statistics), data science, machine learning, ideally with good command of time series forecasting
    • Strong skills in software (ideally Python) programming and related tools (versioning, etc.)
    • Willingness to embrace data handling and operational analytics
    • Practical thinking, hands-on approach
    • Ability to explain and convey messages about complex issues to non-experts in a simple and pedagogic way
  • Good to have:
    • Interest for the Energy markets and Energy-transition topics
    • Knowledge of modern data science platforms and engines such as Databricks and Spark is a plus

 

Soft skills:

  • Must have:
    • Team-player, Transparent, Favor collaboration and working together

 

  • Good to have:
    • Practical thinking

 

Education and professional background:

  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Physics
  • Ideally 1-2 years of experience in the development of modelling tools, ideally with a good knowledge of electricity & gas markets

 

Languages:

  • Fluent in English

 

Travels:

  • Occasional travels (mostly to CWE countries)
