What You Can Expect

Our intern located at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa city will be learning how to safely treat drinking water at our Grade IV Water Treatment facility where we treat both surface and ground sourced water. The intern will learn to  perform clarification and lime softening methods and will  also utilize reverse osmosis and activated carbon treatment processes. The minimum certification required to independently operate the University of Iowa Water Plant is a Class II Water Operator Certification. The student employment program at the Water Plant will be aimed toward helping students achieve a Water Operator Certification.  As part of your training  you will learn how to properly test water, and to understand the results.  You will also learn the regulatory basis for water quality requirements, and effluent / by-product disposal requirements.

 

Daily, you will learn new tasks in our treatment process. You will take samples and learn to adjust chemicals (automated) based on  the chemical properties of the water. You will be monitoring SCADA screens and learning how the plant is supposed to operate, as well as troubleshooting equipment.  You’ll conduct walk-throughs of the plant checking on equipment and logging test results and findings collected.

 

We are very flexible during the school year you can come in and train during any of our operating shifts, gaining hours and operational experience.  You will work rotating shifts on assigned weekends ( we operate three shifts).

What You Can Expect

As our Health and Safety Intern, at The Ohio State University, you will be responsible for providing support to the Environmental Health and Safety Representative.

 

Every day you will assist in in all aspects of the ENGIE Health & Safety Program including, but not limited to:

Contexte:

 

Au croisement du centre d’expertise Global Market Analysis (GMA) et des business platforms Gas Supply & Trading (GST) et GNL, notre équipe se compose d’analystes du marché du gaz (Europe et GNL) et de data scientists. En interaction constante avec nos collègues météorologues et analystes des marchés de l’électricité, nous travaillons en salle de marché et aidons les traders à optimiser la valeur des actifs du groupe tout en assurant que nos clients soient livrés en toutes circonstances.

 

A travers le gaz, nous contribuons également à la stabilité du système électrique et à garantir la sécurité d’approvisionnement énergétique dans son ensemble. Aujourd’hui majoritairement fossile, le gaz est amené à devenir de plus en plus décarboné et participer de manière essentielle à la transition énergétique.

 

Nous combinons notre expertise sur les fondamentaux des marchés (équilibres offre/demande) avec des méthodes quantitatives basées sur 3 approches : la modélisation statistique, le machine learning et l’optimisation. Nous recherchons un(e) stagiaire pour contribuer à l’amélioration de nos modèles d’aide à la décision.

 

En particulier, nous souhaitons mettre en place de nouvelles méthodes de prévision des approvisionnements européens en intégrant une représentation statistique des maintenances et aléas de production, afin de mieux quantifier les risques en volume et en prix qui en découlent. L’analyse se base sur un long historique de données publiques structurées, et un flux temps-réel écoutant les dernières publications des opérateurs d’infrastructure en Europe.

Démarrage souhaité : Février-Avril 2025, pour 5-6 mois.

 

Rôle :

 

  • Modéliser le risque statistique de survenance et de dérive des maintenances/fortuits affectant les infrastructures gazières européennes et GNL ;
  • Contribuer aux modèles de forecasting sur le marché GNL ;
  • Tester et intégrer dans les outils d’analyse fondamentale existants ;
  • Proposer des améliorations de modélisation ;
  • Communiquer les impacts à la communauté de traders et d’analystes.

 

Compétences techniques :

 

  • Très bonne maîtrise de Python, pandas et numpy ;
  • Solides connaissances en probabilités et statistiques (chaînes de Markov, distributions, probabilités conditionnelles, …) ;
  • Notions de modélisation de séries temporelles appréciées ;
  • Notions de base sur Git ;
  • Notions en SQL et services AWS appréciées.

As an intern in Houston, you will help improve grid modeling, analysis, and visualization of renewable generators for the purpose of power price forecasting by researching data using relevant databases and statistical tools.

What You Can Expect

As our Renewable Operations Intern, in Warrenton, NC you will assist in the day-to-day operations of the solar farm, including monitoring system performance and maintenance activities. What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a diploma in a technical program studying electrical theory, electrical linework, industrial electrical equipment or an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability practices
  • Basic knowledge of solar technology and energy systems is a plus
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work outdoors and perform physical tasks as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

 

 

Additional Details

  • The duration of this internship will be from January 2025 to May 2025
  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; ability to drive to site locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consist of 85% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $21.00-$28.00 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

ENGIE North America is searching for a Utility Performance Engineering Intern. This role is based on campus at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.  Engie currently collects real-time data from thousands of process points from the utility and building automation systems on the University of Iowa campus. This information is vital to maintaining the efficient operation of the University’s utilities.

 

Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting. 

 

Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).

 

Hours are flexible but this person should average 10-15 hours/week during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.

  • Build replicas of automation displays linked to live data using PI Vision software.  Add and update tag in the PI System. Design reports using PI Datalink add-in to Excel
  • Assist with any other data entry or reporting as necessary 
  • Assist in the preparation of performance improvement reports, testing plans, and procedure updates 
  • Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs
  • Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

  • You must be currently enrolled at the University of Iowa in Engineering or Computer Science programs or pathways
  • You have completed course work in thermodynamics and other energy related courses
  • You have experience performing basic energy calculations and analyses
  • You have a willingness and ability to learn the basics of utility plant systems  
  • Experience using PI Vision and PI Datalink
  • Willingness and ability to learn PI AF System, PI System Explorer software and the PI Builder add-in to Excel
