What You Can Expect

Our intern located at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa city will be learning how to safely treat drinking water at our Grade IV Water Treatment facility where we treat both surface and ground sourced water. The intern will learn to  perform clarification and lime softening methods and will  also utilize reverse osmosis and activated carbon treatment processes. The minimum certification required to independently operate the University of Iowa Water Plant is a Class II Water Operator Certification. The student employment program at the Water Plant will be aimed toward helping students achieve a Water Operator Certification.  As part of your training  you will learn how to properly test water, and to understand the results.  You will also learn the regulatory basis for water quality requirements, and effluent / by-product disposal requirements.

 

Daily, you will learn new tasks in our treatment process. You will take samples and learn to adjust chemicals (automated) based on  the chemical properties of the water. You will be monitoring SCADA screens and learning how the plant is supposed to operate, as well as troubleshooting equipment.  You’ll conduct walk-throughs of the plant checking on equipment and logging test results and findings collected.

 

We are very flexible during the school year you can come in and train during any of our operating shifts, gaining hours and operational experience.  You will work rotating shifts on assigned weekends ( we operate three shifts).

Your mission

What You Can Expect

As our Renewable Operations Intern, in Chatham, VA you will assist in the day-to-day operations of the solar farm, including monitoring system performance and maintenance activities. You will learn how to support data collection and analysis for energy production, efficiency, and environmental impact. In this role, you are expected to participate in site inspections and assist with safety audits to ensure compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with engineering and project management teams on ongoing projects and initiatives. You will help with the documentation of processes and best practices related to solar farm operations. Additionally, engage in community outreach efforts to promote solar energy and sustainability initiatives.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a diploma in a technical program studying electrical theory, electrical linework, industrial electrical equipment or an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability practices
  • Basic knowledge of solar technology and energy systems is a plus
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work outdoors and perform physical tasks as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

 

 

Additional Details

  • The duration of the internship will be from January 2025 to May 2025
  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; ability to drive to site locations
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;
  • This position consist of 85% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $21.00-$28.00 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

Bring tax expertise to the retail energy business unit by researching and applying tax law and regulation in a variety of business situations. Employ business communication skills and judgment to resolve tax exemption discrepancies and answer customer inquiries. Manage the accurate and timely review and application of customer tax exemption documentation, exemption-related refunds, and tax reporting.

 

  • Perform transaction tax research concerning the taxability of electricity usage for customers located in multiple jurisdictions and validate exemptions claimed.
  • Review and approve submitted Commercial and Industrial customer tax exemption documents – ensure documents are stored in compliance with data retention policies and laws.
  • Calculate and apply tax exemption adjustments and submit for approval, as required and according to company Delegation of Authority policies.
  • Maintain clear, thorough documentation with supporting tax research for all tax adjustments and complete assignments timely.  
  • Provide tax guidance to field offices, Business Control, and third-party vendors regarding the applicability of state and local sales & use tax rules to specific fact patterns and work with them to resolve transaction tax issues.
  • Assist with any required reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or finance preferred.
  • Minium of 2 years relevant retail energy industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, General Ledger software, Tax research software and Retail Billing software. SAP experience preferred.
