Context:

 

As part of its Risk Management & Market Access services, GEMS is developing its capacity to offer tailor-made/structured energy supply and risk management solutions, and reinforcing its xVA trading desk in charge of the management/hedging of credit/liquidity/funding risks.

 

Role:

 

Deals structuring role

This is a front office role fully integrated within sales and trading teams and which requires direct interaction with the clients and close collaboration with other internal stakeholders such as Risk, Finance and Legal teams.

As a Structurer your main focus will be to actively contribute to the development and negotiation of complex and bespoke structured transactions (combination of energy sale & purchase, derivatives products and financing solutions) on the Central Western Europe market.

Your key responsibilities within the team will be:

  • Create and design with sales/originators and traders innovative structured transactions, alternative solutions and adaptation of existing products in response to clients demand and changing market conditions,
  • Proactively cooperate with sales/originators for preparing GEMS’ offer and/or replying to client RFPs (analysis of client exposure, review of the narratives, product and pricing proposal, draft of term sheet and client meetings),
  • Structure and execute bespoke transactions:
    • Lead deal structure negotiation with client and review contract documentation in collaboration with legal,
    • Coordinate and work closely with all relevant internal stakeholders during the deal structuration process involving risk teams, support functions (legal, accounting, tax …) and operations,
    • Prepare, present and ensure deal approval through the relevant internal stakeholders and committee(s) in accordance with internal governance,
  • Provide advisory and specialized expertise on structured transactions and risk matters for business opportunities in the European power market,
  • Support origination in preparing marketing documents, client pitches and attending sectorial conferences,
  • Contribute to the development/improvement of risk assessment (e.g., credit risk, performance risk, financing risk, regulatory risk), risk management and pricing methodologies (including CVA and regulatory costs) to better assess risks and make sure that structured transactions are competitive,
  • Participate to the development/improvement of contract templates in close collaboration with legal and origination,
  • Work closely with middle and back offices in charge of the management of the structured transactions portfolio (management guidelines, covenants monitoring, waivers, …),
  • Maintain close collaborative relationships with the other internal partners of Engie.

xVA structuring role

  • Support the xVA desk’s daily activities such as the pricing and the management of hedging strategies
  • Development of the XVA Desk ecosystem, by building tools/analytics to price, manage and follow positions, using innovative technologies when relevant.
  • Participate actively in methodology improvements concerning XVAs: development of new models, parameterizations, quantitative studies.
  • Be a reference of excellence and grow others traders and sales people in the understanding of the XVA components and theirs impacts on current as well as new businesses

 

  Education and professional background:

  • 10-15 years of professional experience and proven credentials in structuring and executing transactions in the commodities / energy sector,
  • Strong financial experience built in Markets Division and Structure Finance Division of investment banks,
  • Good understanding of the risks, their assessment and the mitigation solutions acquired in a credit department,
  • Knowledge of the European power and gas market,
  • Master degree in quantitative discipline (maths, engineering, finance, etc.).

 

 

Hard skills:

  • Commercial mindset with negotiation capabilities,
  • Ability to manage a complex stakeholder environment,
  • Proficiency with IT Tools, in particular Excel (and VBA), knowledge in Python and experience in database with programming language.

Compensation

Salary Range: $74,500 – $114,195 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Context:

 

The Business platform “Gas Delivery & Physical” is in charge within GEMS to ensure physical operations on behalf of its customers, both internal and external:

  • scheduling (nomination & matching) gas deliveries,
  • balancing portfolios on daily and hourly granularities,
  • optimizing assets on short-term maturities,
  • operating balancing assets for gas-fired power plants,
  • capturing and allocating realized flows in the trading systems,
  • LNG scheduling of discharge and reloading slots.

 

Role:

 

Within this Business platform, the Asset Management & Delivery Oversight Team is in charge of ensuring the within-day processes (Balancing & Optimization) and the post delivery processes making sure that GDP clients are understanding the operations made on their behalf. In that perspective, GDO team is made of 3*8 shifters, WD traders and realized portfolio managers. Teammate who are not in duty are also contributing to deliver projects improving operational quality or client services.

 

GDO team alongside with Asset Management and Delivery Oversights (AMDO) Team manages the delivery of gas in the European network and optimize ENGIE & subsidiaries gas portfolios.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The On-duty officer is a key player whose role is:

 

  • Execute GEMS’s LNG operations in connection with European LNG terminals,
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of GEMS's European gas portfolio and ensure its modeling in GDP tools,
  • Through a proactive attitude, leverage on contract expertise to manage delivery risks, capture opportunities, and increase extracted value,
  • Supervise the implementation of deliveries and support GDO in managing assets,
  • Participate in a night and weekend on-call rotation in order to:
    • Supervise and support GDO's asset portfolio management,
    • Ensure the first level of management in the event of a crisis, in contact with GEMS management,
  • Ensure the proper capture of deals, the production of reports and indicators, and the relationship with GEMS support services,
  • Lead various initiatives or projects related to GDP operational activities and/or its digital and commercial ambitions,
  • Collaborate with GEMS teams on projects where you will bring your short-term management expertise (contract negotiation, capacity subscription policy, etc.).

Purpose of the job

The Settlements Analyst is responsible for working with colleagues to maintain the Back Office function for EUM’s UK trading activities. This includes the development, maintenance and use of an effective system for settlement, payment, validation, and provision of month end reporting information.  The Settlements Analyst is also expected to contribute to developing and maintaining a reputation for the Back Office as a provider of accurate, efficient and timely information to its internal and external stakeholders, which include Finance teams within ENGIE, counterparty Back Offices, Risk Management teams and Group Reporting

 

About the role

This role is part of the Back Office team within FINOPS, working alongside a team of six. We are looking to hire a Settlement Analyst for our London office. This is a permanent, hybrid position, working 37 hours per week, with two days spent in the office

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Validation and Confirmation of transactions across a wide range of commodity markets and with trading counterparties (internal and external) for all UK trading activities. This includes trades executed on exchanges and Over the Counter (OTC) directly with counterparties under various contract structures. Maintain a system for tracking outstanding confirmations and liaise with counterparties to ensure all outstanding confirmations are received.
  • Invoicing: Accurate preparation and validation of commodity invoices, associated fees (including broker fees, gas shipping and transportation charges) and some ancillary services. 
  • Daily cash margining process: agree daily cash margin (also referred to as cash collateral) exposures with trading counterparties. This is a time sensitive process that involves daily payments by set deadlines and being proactive in following up if there are late responses and/or mismatches.
  • Query Resolution: Have a thorough understanding of commodities and contract structures traded to successfully resolve queries from internal and external counterparties.
  • Compliance control: Review deals from a compliance and control point of view and flag up for corrective action (e.g. errors and breaches by traders)
  • Financial Control:  Liaise with colleagues in the wider business to ensure cash settlement occurs and follow up late payments with counterparties where necessary.
  • Internal Control, Best Practise and Audit:  Develop and maintain clear and logical administrative processes with efficient audit trails. Assist with audit queries as and when they arise. Strive to develop the Back Office as an area of “Best Practise”.
  • Financial and Trading Reporting:  Ensure all required information is provided under agreed deadlines to various users including:
    • Finance teams - for cash forecasting, gross margin reporting and month end reporting
    • Risk Management- for trading reports
    • Wider areas of the business for ad-hoc analysis
  • Compliance with Contractual Terms:  Ensure all Back Office processes are carried out in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Regulatory reporting: support Back Office team with regulatory reporting (REMIT, EMIR etc)
  • Various Ad-Hoc Tasks, including:
    • provide knowledge and support during Trade System improvement projects.
    • propose and participate in improving processes and tools (e.g., automate manual tasks, update and improve existing tools etc.)
  • Back up cover for the team – provide cover for the Back Office team when colleagues are out of the office (e.g., holiday/sick leave cover)

 

Qualifications & Skills:

 

  • Experience working  in a Back Office environment within the UK/European energy industry
  • Experience with an ETRM system for the energy industry such as Orchestrade (OT) is desirable
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (candidates with coding skills will be considered favourably, e.g., VBA, Python, SQL, Power BI, advanced MS Excel etc)
  • Experience in back office process automation and digitalisation.
  • Experience in large scale systems projects / or equivalent project work.
  • Awareness of UK VAT rules (not essential but desirable)
  • Focus on automation and eliminating manual/inefficient processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team environment

What You Can Expect

As a Power Grid Modeling and Forecasting Advisor, you will report to Congestion Trading Director and will develop long term grid scenarios for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO)/Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint and forecast nodal price curves using production cost modeling tools.

 

  • Develop and execute appropriate scenario studies pertinent to the period of study and systematically analyzing the results
  • Execute production cost models - Day-Ahead Locational Market Clearing Prices Analyzer (Dayzer) by systematically analyzing and updating the inputs as appropriate
  • Develop systematic and repeatable approach to analyze and form fundamental views with respect to macro-trends
  • Analyze and determine drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes based on macro-fundamentals (supply, demand, renewables) and micro-fundamentals (specific transmission and generation outage impacts, bids, facility limits)
  • Identify model gaps by calibrating the model results to market outcomes and determine appropriate solutions
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to the enhance fundamental trading
  • Participate in Independent System Operator (ISO) meetings as appropriate and assess commercial impacts
  • Collaborate with IT personnel to maintain and improve relevant tools
  • Develop and maintain dispatch and flow models, communicating fundamental developments and views to stakeholders
  • Build models to track market fundamentals and regularly benchmark against actualizations

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Master’s degree in which you completed courses in relevant disciplines (Engineering/Business/Finance etc.)

As Short Term Trader, you will play a pivotal role within the Short Term Trading desk, organized within the Short term Power as a Service.

The mission of Short Term Trading is to maximize  the revenues of  the ENGIE  power portfolio within the CWE region and maximize the value of intraday trading activities in the developing pan-European Intraday markets. These activities are executed within a sub team of 9 people organized continuous 24/7 and taking up both Trading & optimization activities.

Role:

In the role of Short Term Trader, you will be responsible for: 

  • Maximizing the CWE power portfolio revenues in intra-day, including renewable management, sales exposure and asset flexibility
  • Leveraging on our market expertise in order to maximize the value of our trading activities.
  • You will act as a single window to the intraday Market in order to cover the real time physical needs of our clients and re-optimize the asset portfolio against the intraday power market prices.
  • Develop strategies to maximize revenues and minimize the costs for our clients over the different time horizons of the short term chain
  • Develop cross-maturity models which can serve the portfolio of assets, intermittency, DSM and develop efficient strategies to capture trading opportunities on those different markets.

Context:

The Credit Risk team assesses the creditworthiness of counterparties, participates in the negotiation of commercial contracts, and calibrates credit limits.  Assessment is done through an analysis of the country, sector, industry, and counterparty, using financials and other quantitative and qualitative public and private information.  Counterparties are frequently private and unrated by agencies.  Contract negotiation includes physical energy commodities agreements, and credit terms can include credit-specific clauses, financial covenants, collateral, and payment terms.  After signing off on a contract, the Credit Risk team monitors exposure against credit limits.  The credit health and financial condition of counterparties is also continuously monitored. 

Role:

As a Credit Risk Analyst for Global LNG & Biomass business, you will report to the Head of Credit for LNG & Biomass and will be based in Singapore.  You will collaborate to the fulfillment of department missions and may be involved in projects spanning multiple groups across commercial functions and staff.

Duties

  • Assess creditworthiness of counterparties, assign ratings, and set limits
  • Present files and credit requests to regular Credit Risk Committees
  • Participate in counterparty relationship development with Front Office and attend meetings with counterparties together with Front Office
  • Negotiate and recommend credit, collateral, and payment terms in contracts in conjunction with Legal and Front Office, such as in physical master agreements
  • Monitor credit risk indicators, exposures, limits, and utilization for a portfolio of counterparties
  • Proactively respond to Front Office queries on term sheets and about exposure of potential trades and whether trades fit limits
  • Monitor news and credit events impacting portfolio of counterparties
  • Understand risk calculation methodology, such as PFE and credit VaR
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, as and when needed
  • Assist Head of Credit and CRO in adhoc projects related to credit risk mandate and policy updates for LNG and Biomass.

 

 

Hard skills:

  • Familiar with energy commodities markets, products, counterparties, and waterborne physical trade cycle
  • Good knowledge of credit support instruments (including SBLCs, and able to review formats)
  • Knowledge of physical commodity master agreements
  • Significant history of producing detailed credit files and assigning internal ratings and limits

 

Soft skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills (including performing financial statements analysis) and able to articulate position well
  • Ability to work under pressure, self-organize and prioritize tasks, and proactively respond to urgent requests from Front Office in a high-pressure work environment
