As the Engineering Senior Advisor – Electrical, you will manage all aspects of Electrical Engineering design and construction activities for utility-scale renewables projects (wind, solar, and energy storage) throughout the US and Canada and serve as an innovative subject matter expert and leader.

Every day in this role:

  • Lead development and updates of Substation and Protection & Control (SPC) technical specifications, standards, and corrective action designs
  • Coordinate engineering design efforts with EPC and manage external engineering firms and subcontractors to ensure high-quality project execution
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for SPC, supporting Project Engineering Managers and leading design reviews/submittals of high voltage substations and transmission system protection schemes to include Vendor Equipment Selection, GA’s, Elevation Views, Ground Grids, Conduit & Grounding Layouts, Switching Diagrams, Relay Protection One-Lines, Three-Line Diagrams, Communication Network Diagrams, AC&DC Schematics, Connection & Wiring Diagrams
  • Provide internal engineering support to Development & Pre-Construction groups, and assist with procurement processes for long lead materials
  • Stay updated on new technologies, regulatory conditions, and industry best practices, with up to 20% travel for site assessments and construction meetings and activities

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field of study
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience and proven knowledge in high voltage (138kV and above) electrical substation engineering and design field is required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering standards including (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI) and FERC and NERC requirements for electric substation reliability
  • Extensive knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals and three phase power systems
  • Proficiency in engineering application software to complete tasks such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit studies
  • Experience in protective relay coordination and settings for HV and EHV transmission systems and familiarity with Schweitzer and General Electric relay and communication equipment
  • Knowledge of transmission line protection schemes (step-distance, POTT, DCB, DUTT) and electrical systems analysis software (ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, and PSLF)
  • Must be able to communicate complex technical subject matter information to a wide range of audiences verbally and in written communication
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and demonstrate excellent organizational and project management skills

The Senior Advisor will lead a team of Asset Managers to maximize risk adjusted returns to advance renewable energy solutions across North America.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Asset Management: Lead the team in negotiating and amending contracts (including Power Purchase (PPA), landowners (LTSA), Asset Management service agreements) to improve performance and mitigate risks. Oversee technical aspects and coordinate with operations teams. Develop prudent project budgets, ensure compliance with market rules, lead initiatives to improve performance and protect long-term value, and maintain strong relationships with ENGIE’s Global Energy Management and Supply entities
  • Leadership: Provide direction, promote an inclusive culture, build strong relationships, offer constructive feedback, and ensure prioritization for work-life balance

About the role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Technical Engineer – Development to join our UK Renewables team. In this role, you will support the development and construction of onshore wind and solar projects in the UK and Ireland. About MIRFA 2 RO Plant

Mirfa 2 Reverse Osmosis (M2 RO) Plant, uses RO technology to produce and supply up to 120 million imperial gallons, equivalent to 550,000 cubic metres of potable water per day to EWEC under a 30-year O&M Agreement with Mirfa 2 RO Desalination Company.

The M2 RO Water Plant is located adjacent to the existing Mirfa 1 Plant located at the Mirfa Complex five kilometers west of the town of Mirfa, about 100 kilometers southwest of the city of Abu Dhabi on the Arabian Gulf coast in UAE.

The expected date for starting commercial operations of the plant is November 2025.

The processes stages that make up the plant are :  Sea water intake  Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)  Dual Media Pressure Filtration (DMPF)  Cartridge Filtration (CF)  Reverse osmosis Racks (RO);  Chemical Treatment;  Limestone filtration  Potable water storage/network  Sludge treatment  Utilities or auxiliary equipment

Mirfa 2 Staff are expected to reside within the Mirfa city premises to ensure timely response to plant emergencies and callouts. Exceptions to reside in Abu Dhabi / Ruwais / Zayed City, may be considered by plant management.

JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of the I&C Technician is to ensure plant I&C equipment are maintained to a standard that maximizes the reliability and availability of plant utilizing Work Instructions documented in the Maintenance Management System, OEM guidelines and under the instruction of the I&C Engineer.

SCOPE OF THE JOB:
These responsibilities represent the minimum expectations for the role; additional duties may be assigned as needed.

During Mobilization Period and prior to plant commercial operation date (PCOD):

  • Participate in plant commissioning activities, raising site observations & punch points, observe and report daily plant maintenance during early water production period.
  • Support O&M Manager in warranty and handover of plant from EPC resulting in smooth transition from EPC to O&M Team.

During O&M Period / post COD of plant:

  • Implementing day to day I&C maintenance activity and planned implementation of I&C maintenance practices in accordance with OEM, best engineering practice and contractual agreements.
  • Apply specialist I&C expertise to carry out fault investigations, defect and preventative maintenance, together with modifications on a range of plant.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental management procedures within assigned areas to protect employee safety and meet legislative requirements.
  • Perform Permit Acceptor responsibilities by applying Engie Company Safety Rules, ensuring effective implementation of safety measures.
  • Ensure complete understanding and adherence to safety procedures for both self and team, with zero tolerance for breaches.

  • Implement I&C maintenance practices in accordance with OEM and international standards.
  • Completes all Work Orders generated in CMMS as directed.
  • Ensures that maintenance of all I&C equipment is in accordance with OEM Manuals and best practices for the equipment.
  • Reviews I&C Maintenance Procedures and suggests improvements.
  • Works to full potential and high quality of work.
  • Provide supervision to supporting maintenance staff and contractors to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of the plant.
  • Support development and implementation of maintenance procedures to cover all maintenance work performed.
  • Supports the 24-hour operation by being regularly available for call-out at short notice.
  • Completes any planned maintenance work within time and budget.
  • Assists others to make decisions, to resolve plant maintenance problems.
  • Deliver outcomes, in all areas of work, consistent with the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies.

  • Work Level 1: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities do not represent a risk for their integrity.
  • Work Level 2: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent a risk for their physical integrity (e.g. working in zones with high temperatures or with permanent increased noise levels).
  • Work Level 3: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent a risk of medium kind and with temporary consequences like blows, falls, etc.
  • Work Level 4: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent a risk of accidents of medium kind that can generate permanent consequences (burns, mutilations, irreversible wounds).
  • Work Level 5: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent risks and are controlled by means of procedures, supervision, safety devices and HSE Teams in such a way that its nonobservance that could lead to a serious accident of even death.
  • Work Level 6: the tasks that he/she performs as part of their daily work activities represent a high risk for their physical integrity. This job is classified according to International Safety Regulations as a “high risk” level job.

Hazards & Risks: Working in the plant site at and in the vicinity of the followings:

  • Rotating and Moving Equipment: Risk of injury from rotating machinery, moving parts, and conveyors.

  • Daily communications regarding plant maintenance and staff issues with I&C Engineer.
  • Daily co-ordination and cooperation with operations, maintenance and external parties for maintenance, planning and forecasting purposes.
  • Regular communications with the Control Room team for safe working.
  • Communicating with suppliers, contractors, equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Service Providers (membrane replacement, manpower provider, scaffolding, overhauling etc).

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good command of the English language with verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible: willing to work long hours, weekends and be on call if required (periodically).
  • Arabic is an advantage.
  • Full understanding of Engie Company safety rules and practical application.
  • Good I&C foundation and practical knowledge of how it applies to modern power plant and desalination plant processes.
  • Practical experience of maintaining a wide range of rotating and static equipment gained through hands on experience and formal training.
  • Organizing spares, tools and equipment to carry out maintenance activities.
  • Capability to performs trouble shooting activities as necessary to determine failure conditions and rectifies defects found.
