Contexte:

 

Le Centre d'Expertise (EC) en Recherche Quantitative et Modélisation (QRM) au sein de GEMS est une équipe de 30 analystes quantitatifs. Sa mission est de fournir une expertise quantitative avancée à toutes les entités business (BP) de GEMS.
Au sein de ce centre, l'équipe quantitative "Gas & Oil" propose un stage visant à développer et à étudier un modèle paramétrique de type HJM pour la calibration des corrélations intra sur les marchés du gaz. Ce travail se basera sur une approche historique, tout en prenant en compte les effets de saisonnalité.

La seconde partie du stage portera sur la valorisation des contrats swing, en utilisant les corrélations calibrées. L’objectif sera d’ajuster la calibration de manière à obtenir des prix de swing qui se situent dans la fourchette bid-ask des quotes brokers disponibles.

 

Rôle:

 

  • Calibration historique du modèle HJM pour fitter les corrélations intra à partir des données historiques des prix des contrats à terme, avec une composante stationnaire en T-t et une composante saisonnière en T (si des effets de saisonnalité sont observés).
  • Valorisation des contrats swing en adoptant une méthode de réplication à l’aide de contrats fermes et optionnels ou via un algorithme de type Monte-Carlo Américain.
  • Ajustement de la calibration historique pour aligner les prix sur les fourchettes bis-ask des quotes des brokers.
  • Etude d’un modèle paramétrique unifié de type HJM qui permettre de représenter tous les paramètres exotiques non observables sur les marchés du gaz.

 

Compétences techniques:

 

  • Manipulation de données, analyse des séries temporelles, et maîtrise de techniques statistiques avancées (analyse en composantes principales, …).
  • Solides compétences en mathématiques appliquées et maîtrise du calcul stochastique.
  • Programmation orientée objet (C# ou Python).

Mission

Provide KYC/AML and Ethics analysis, monitoring and reporting services to support the development of the GEM BU.

Ensure compliance with existing regulations, ENGIE and BU GEMS internal policies and the implementation of GEM KYC tools and processes.

Be instrumental in building the know-how and training other analysts of the team in this respect.

Participation to regular tasks managed by the team such as Bad press Watch, Sanction and PEP watch, SSI watch, Mailbox watch …..

Participation to Permanent supervision controls by implementing corrections requested.

In some circumstances, support the management in handling some regulatory projects (Watch, filtering, country risk rating, policies review etc…) and by accompanying the business in the development of new activities.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Compliance with GEM risk

Ensure the implementation and compliance of GEM KYC policies, tools, process and best practices.

  • Client on-boarding and client portfolio review
  • Analysis of files to ensure KYC/AML and Ethics compliance for new and existing counterparties;
  • Depending on seniority level “4-eye check” responsibility will be endorsed
  • In support of specific deals, proposition of clauses with counterparties, in collaboration with the legal department;
  • Participation to regular tasks managed by the team such as Bad press Watch, Sanction and PEP watch, SSI watch, Mailbox watch …..
  • Correction of findings linked to Permanent supervision controls
  • Support the management in handling some regulatory projects (TMT, Watch, filtering, country risk rating, policies review etc…) and by accompanying the business in the development of new activities.
  • Answer external requests
  • Answer to urgent business needs and provide support –
  • Ensure a follow-up of existing counterparties in terms of KYC to raise alerts if needs be.
  • Search for documents using databases and request documents from customers

Key skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Experience on AML/KYC file validation

Climate targets are becoming a very important point on the energy transition roadmap of our corporate clients, with many claims being made by 2030.

Role :

Within GEMS, the Carbon Desk, Environmental Market Access and BP Clients aim to develop upstream to downstream capabilities to originate high quality carbon offsets and deliver carbon contribution solutions to our customers. Your main tasks will be :

 

  • Take responsibility for achieving sales revenue targets for Carbon Offsets, developing a transaction pipeline and driving sales closures both on spot and forward contracts
  • Leverage on our existing customer portfolio to identify interests on Carbon offsets
  • Prospect, qualify and engage new carbon credit sales clients. Drive relationship from initial catch up through to the successful closing of sales, including structuration and negotiation of commercial conditions and contracts

ENGIE Supply and Energy Management Global Business Unit is responsible for all trading and risk management activities for a portfolio of electricity, natural gas, environmental products, and bulk commodities for the various ENGIE BUs and external customers in both, domestic and international markets The Market Risk team within Supply & Energy Management Risk & Finance is responsible for the measurement, control, and reporting of all market-based activities as well as the strategic management of risk capital across these activities, notably the trading & portfolio management activities of Supply & Energy Management, the B2B Retail Supply organization and the Renewable Assets owned by ENGIE North America.

 

As an integral member of the Supply & Energy Management Risk & Finance Group, you will work with Supply & Energy Management Front Office and Risk teams and other stakeholders to provide analytical, market intelligence and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

As a Market Risk Advisor in Houston, You will report to the Portfolio Analysis Director and you will work with Commercial and Risk teams to provide analytical, market insight and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

  • Propose, evaluate, and validate commercial strategies that manage the value / risk balance of the various retail supply / renewable energy portfolios (power, gas, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)) managed by Supply & Energy Management and other GBUs (Global Business Units) individually and collectively (e.g. reducing basis risk, managing intermittency, etc.) Perform periodic and ad-hoc analysis
  • Identify and develop appropriate cost/risk bricks to value PPAs and support investment analysis
  • Work with Commercial and Risk Teams to develop models for valuing complex structured transactions and perform post-processing modeling and analysis using Excel and other computing platforms
  • Research and analyze subjects including historical and forward market prices, market fundamentals, customer load analysis, financial forecast variances and advise internal stakeholders in terms of general structuring advice as well as optimization of returns throughout the transaction process
  • Develop, enhance and maintain tools, methodologies and reports that evaluate pricing and risk assessment of various commercial transactions  
  • Use benchmarking data to support valuation and competitive assessments, and create a benchmarking process to evaluate actions undertaken by front-office
  • Build, maintain and publish internal models for tracking and evaluating asset-specific performance metrics
  • Identify and recommend risk reducing offsets and efficiencies in avoided bid-ask spreads and credit across the ENGIE portfolio
  • Perform economic analyses of structured transactions (EVA) to support Origination & Structuring activities of Supply & Energy Management front-office and other business units
  • Collaborate and participate in knowledge sharing with various stakeholders and Expertise Centers (e.g. Risk, MAS - Markets, Assets & Supply); support Commercial, Origination  and Business Development activities, offering views on ISO’s market fundamentals (Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), ISO New England (ISO-NE)), Renewable Energy development and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing opportunities, price vs. renewable production dynamics, etc.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of four-year degree in which you completed courses in an analytical and quantitative (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Economics, Math) or other related discipline
  • A minimum of seven years of general business experience with minimum three years of relevant experience in Competitive Energy Markets, preferably dealing with Renewable assets including BESS and/or Retail Supply books
  • Advanced modeling capabilities using Excel+VBA, SQL, Python, R, or any other data analysis tool
  • Hands-on experience handling large datasets with ability to structure, organize, process, and cogently present analysis to leadership.
  • Knowledge of financial derivatives and commodity markets (gas, power, and environmental products)
  • Resourceful with ability to use a variety of tools, data sources, and systems; inherent curiosity to procure and test new resources
  • Experience in the structure, transactions, and protocols of wholesale and retail energy markets ideally under a variety of regulatory systems

Context

The GEMS Legal & Regulation department (85+ lawyers worldwide) is composed of 1) several client focused teams with lawyers embedded into different parts of the business based on line of business or geography and 2) a functional central legal team covering several legal functional areas which are transversal throughout GEMS (the Transversal Team). YOUR Role

You will:

  • Provide regulatory guidance to the business on regulations impacting GEMS’s activities (energy and trading) via comprehensive legal, regulatory and market conduct analyses that identify risks, issues and mitigating measures;
  • Develop strategies, internal policies and solutions to facilitate market activities/ business development/ regulatory compliance, and develop - together with other support functions and operational teams - best practices in relation to market conduct topics and wholesale energy market regulations;

About YOU

You meet all (or most of) the following criteria:

  • Qualified lawyer (preferably in Belgium or France);
  • At least 4 years of professional experience;
