Role Summary: A Rate Analyst - Forecasting, is expected to accurately complete electric and gas rate analysis tasks for mid-complexity level utility tariff structures.  They must be able to research and understand the applicability of those rate structures to the ENGIE Impact client base, as well as maintain the applicable mathematical rate models.  Additionally, the act as subject matter expert for rate knowledge and forecasting details, assisting Energy Analysts and Program Managers in determining best rate solutions and applicability for client reports and budgets.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  •  Research, compile and interpret utility-related rate cases and tariff changes on an on-going basis and input into respective databases.
  • Develop market knowledge base to serve as source of expertise on commodity pricing trends.
  • Utilize statistical methods and data analytics techniques to analyze historical energy market data, including supply, demand, pricing, and consumption patterns.
  • Research utility rate changes and pending regulated rate cases to determine impact on client utility cost. Utilize creativity, innovation, and technology to locate and source necessary data and information.
  • Compile standard and customized reports on electric, gas, water, sewer and other utility and energy data.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, energy suppliers, and customers to gather market intelligence and insights to provide updated rate changes.
  • Contribute to the continuous process improvement for the research and analysis services provided. Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance forecasting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Research and understand the applicability of low to mid-complexity level electric and gas rate structures to the Rates Analysis client base.
  • Develop, maintain, and utilize proprietary mathematical electric and gas rate models for utilities with low to mid-complexity level tariff structures in the rates analysis process for all clients.
  • Demonstrate the skillsets necessary to examine high complexity level tariffs as the Rate Analysts matures in the role.
  • Manipulate large datasets of historical client usage data to effectively identify anomalies and savings and/or bill error credit opportunities.  Approach every potential billing error with a strong, well-defined balance of analytic skill and creativity to generate the best possible resolution for the client.
  • Analyze historical utility account information and current usage patterns to develop benchmarks for electricity, natural gas, and water/sewer consumption, and apply those metrics across the entire portfolio for multi-site clients.
  • Investigate cost and usage anomalies to identify and resolve complex billing errors such as power factor issues, transformer and capacity charge overbillings, miscalculated sewer strength charges, errors in units of measure, incorrect meter multipliers, and mixed loads.
  • Respond to basic product related client inquiries as presented by various internal groups as requested by the Manager.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of product specific processes, procedures, and toolsets for products. 
  • Assist in the production of status quo product reporting and metrics as well as provide actionable insights and vision for the creation of new reporting and metrics as relevant and as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Education/ Certifications/ Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree required in one of the following fields; engineering, accounting, finance, economics, or business
    • Minimum two years relevant experience with in performing utility tariff analysis required
    • Basic understanding of utility rate structures and mathematical modeling as it relates to utility tariff analysis required
    • May consider a combination of relevant experience with educational and other skills and abilities in lieu of educational requirements

The Role:

The Sustainability Waste Advisor will be performing compliance-based waste audits in a high client-facing, travel-intensive role. They will also assist the Audit Support Team in various projects related to waste-audits, zero waste, and other tasks on an as-needed basis.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site projects and compliance improvement programs, which include training, bin optimization and planning, and department-wide waste audits.
  • Perform an average of 3 audits per day on a given audit week.
  • Prepare and present waste solutions presentations and reporting for client facing meetings.
  • Share and justify audit decisions in a regulatory context with site and regional senior leadership.
  • Ability to understand and speak to regulated waste including Medical and Pharmaceutical Waste and Protected Health Information.
  • Manage and analyze multiple large datasets using MS Office Suite to find trends, identify operational opportunities, and produce deliverables.
  • Solve escalated client and team issues and concerns in a professional and timely manner to ensure customer retention and satisfaction.
  • Manage multiple tasks on multiple projects including creating and implementing project timelines, answering customer requests, printing and/or creating training materials, data entry, scheduling meetings and developing training sessions.
  • Research and build thought leadership around recycling and diversion practices and vendors
  • Assist clients with and coordinate details for various special projects that are deadline driven.
  • Coordinate with the client, onsite contacts and team members to ensure preparedness for audits.
  • Coordinate with the audit team to prepare for audits, including building audit and travel schedules, managing supplies and inventory and training waste audit volunteers.
  • Promote Engie’s brand and services through excellent customer service during normal client interactions.
  • Generate reports, prepare and monitor invoices and expense reports.
  • Contact vendors via email and phone to obtain client-relevant information, including contact information and details regarding waste services.
  • Perform related work as required.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Environmental Science, Sustainability etc. 
  • Waste industry knowledge required in at least two of the following specialties: Solid waste, recycling, organics, medical waste, hazardous waste, pharmaceutical waste, universal waste, electronic waste, specialized waste disposal regulations and methods and confidential information waste.
  • Current Driver’s License and a clean driving record
  • Minimum 2 years of waste industry experience
  • Minimum 2 years project management or client facing work experience Preferred.
  • Waste compliance or healthcare industry preferred

Context:

The transversal data officer works within the global Data Office for GEMS. The Data office is under the direct responsibility of the Chief Data officer and is responsible for data governance, quality as well as driving the overall data strategy for the organization under the guidance of the CDO.

 

Role:

Data Office roadmap and program monitoring:

ENGIE Global Energy Management and Sales (GEMS) is responsible for managing the portfolio of electricity, natural gas, environmental products, and bulk commodities for ENGIE and its external clients, on an international level. The Risk team within GEMS is responsible for the measurement, control, and reporting of all market-based activities as well as the strategic management of risk capital across these activities, notably the trading & portfolio management activities of Global Energy Management (GEM), the Business to Business (B2B) Retail Supply organization and the Renewable Assets owned by ENGIE North America.

 

As a Market Risk Advisor in Houston, you will work with Commercial and Risk teams to provide analytical, market insight and strategy support focused on evaluating various risk management strategies and optimizing Profit & Loss (P&L) within the risk mandates.

 

Your daily responsibilities will include a combination of regular and ad-hoc tasks including among others risk assessment of origination deals and investments; evaluating regulatory and market changes, updating models and analyses, and responding to requests from Front-Office and other Global Business Units on portfolio and risk impacts.

 

  • Develop, enhance and maintain tools, methodologies and reports that evaluate pricing and risk assessment of various commercial transactions  
  • Perform periodic and ad-hoc analysis; Propose, evaluate, and validate commercial strategies that manage the value / risk balance of the various retail supply / renewable energy portfolios (power, gas, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)) managed by GEMS and other GBUs (Global Business Units) individually and collectively (e.g. reducing basis risk, managing intermittency, etc.)
  • Collaborate and participate in knowledge sharing with various stakeholders and Expertise Centers (e.g. Risk, Expertise Center- Markets, Assets & Supply); support Commercial, Origination  and Business Development activities, offering views on ISO’s market fundamentals (Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection (PJM), Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), ISO New England (ISO-NE)), Renewable Energy development and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing opportunities, price vs. renewable production dynamics, etc.
  • Use benchmarking data to support valuation and competitive assessments, and create a benchmarking process to evaluate actions undertaken by front-office
  • Build, maintain and publish internal models for tracking and evaluating asset-specific performance metrics
  • Identify and recommend risk reducing offsets and efficiencies in avoided bid-ask spreads and credit across the ENGIE portfolio
  • Perform economic analyses of structured transactions Economic-Value-Added (EVA) to support Origination & Structuring activities of GEMS front-office and other business units
  • Research and analyze subjects including historical and forward market prices, market fundamentals, customer load analysis, financial forecast variances and advise internal stakeholders in terms of general structuring advice as well as optimization of returns throughout the transaction process
  • Track, collect and synthesize actionable market intelligence
  • Assess impact of regulatory developments on commodity risk positions and provide feedback back to the front office

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of four-year degree in which you completed courses in an analytical and quantitative discipline (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Economics, Math)
  • A minimum of seven years of general business experience with minimum three years of relevant experience in Competitive Energy Markets, preferably dealing with Renewable assets including BESS and/or Retail Supply books
  • Knowledge of financial derivatives and commodity markets (gas, power, and environmental products)
  • Proficient in data handling, structuring, organizing, processing, and presenting skills (using Advanced Excel+ Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, R, or any other data analysis tool)
  • Resourceful with ability to use a variety of tools, data sources, and systems; inherent curiosity to procure and test new resources
  • Experience in the structure, transactions, and protocols of wholesale and retail energy markets ideally under a variety of regulatory systems (familiarity with the minimum of two markets preferred - ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), and NYISO)
  • Knowledge of a portfolio approach to valuation, where assets sit within an integrated value chain
  • Analytical profile, ability to provide precise and solid insights, identify causes and conditions, structure action plans, and propose and defend those to the leadership

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000 – $172,500 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
