What You Can Expect

As the Solar Technician, your daily responsibilities begin with accessing tasks via SCADA, Maximo, or various SAP software systems upon arrival at the solar plant in Alpine, TX . Your duties encompass repairing, troubleshooting, and fulfilling technical repair work orders for solar panels. You will also manage documentation, update parts inventory, and as well as submit on-site status reports, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, and initiating work orders for equipment repairs. Coordination of high voltage switching activities with local utilities and independent system operators (ISO), which includes tasks like substation operations, equipment lockouts and grounding. You will be required to adhere to safety protocols such as conducting Site-Specific Orientations, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and safety meetings. While you will primarily work independently on-site, there will always be a nearby technician for safety support. The site's team comprises (1) one solar team member and the Regional Operations Manager. You will also be a part of an on-call rotation for outages and emergencies; therefore, you must reside within 50 miles of the site.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum two (2) years diploma in a technical program where you have learned AC/ DC electrical theory, understand reading blue prints and schematics, industrial electrical equipment including breaker, disconnects, transformers, contactors  
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in Solar generation sites, Wind generation sites, Thermal power plants, Manufacturing or Mining operations, or Controls & Industrial Maintenance
  • Must have or be willing to obtain certification by AVO as substation technician within 12 months of hire date
  • Capacity to be on call as deemed necessary by supervisor

  • This is a field position requiring regular travel to client site(s)

Compensation

What You Can Expect

As the Ecological Restoration / Vegetation Management Advisor based in Houston, TX, you will ensure that ecological restoration and vegetation management strategies are developed, implemented and effectively maintained across all ENGIE Renewables sites.  You will work closely with the development and delivery teams to identify and implement vegetation management strategies for new projects.  You will be responsible for ensuring site preparation and seeding during the delivery phase and managing the operational phase, including coordinating contractors for mowing, grazing, or other methods. This role requires collaboration across teams to support the success of vegetation management throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Reporting to the VP, Field Operations, your primary duties will encompass:

 

  • Keeping up to date with innovation and industry best practices and acting as subject matter expert in relation to ecological restoration, vegetation management, agrivoltaics (such as sheep grazing), pollinator habitat and other related activities.
  • Ensuring sites remain compliant with regulatory requirements, planning consents and land lease obligations along with any other such requirements. Including the tracking and closure of consent and licensing conditions
  • Conducting ecological restoration related fieldwork, including assessment of site conditions, noxious weed mapping, storm water pollution prevention planning, auditing of restoration works and restoration monitoring to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards
  • Working closing with teams across development, construction and operations and maintenance to develop ecologically minded site restoration strategies / specifications, including seed mixes, biodiversity enhancements, monitoring protocols, and vegetation maintenance plans for use during a project’s planning, construction, and operations phases
  • Drafting technical memos and reports, along with other project support materials as needed
  • Identification and assessment of suitably qualified and experienced vegetation management contractors, drafting of scopes along with the tendering, letting and day to day management of contracts
  • Communicating effectively regarding the scope and schedule of restoration and vegetation management activities to be performed, onsite along with ongoing monitoring and maintenance required by site teams
  • Assessment and approval of weed abatement treatments for use on site including pesticides and herbicides.
  • Completes other duties as assigned

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in restoration ecology, natural resource management, environmental science, conservation biology, or a closely related discipline; In lieu of the educational requirement, we will accept a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant industry experience in vegetation management & ecology restoration
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with project managers, site managers, contractors, landowners, and regulatory bodies

  • Communication: Effectively communicate technical subject matter to non-technical staff members
  • Industry Trends: Stay updated on changing trends in the solar industry

  • Conceptual Design: Develop and advise on conceptual design configurations for development pipeline and M&A projects

The Project Manager (PM) Senior – Advisor is responsible for providing overall management of the design, construction, commissioning, and execution of multiple utility scale renewable projects throughout the US.  The PM Sr. Advisor will be renewable technology agnostic and responsible for managing execution of multiple engineering, construction, and/or procurement contracts.  The PM Sr. Advisor will work with our internal and external teams, and subcontractors, to oversee the design of the project and will work with our on-site Construction Monitoring team to manage and monitor the work.  THE PM Senior Advisor provides training and mentoring for assigned team members and others in the Delivery group, as well as the on-site Construction Management Team. Additionally, this role will build, foster, and maintain a collaborative working environment within the Project Team.

 

  • Utilize experience, knowledge, and leadership skills to expertly guide execution of assigned renewable projects to successfully meet or exceed expectations
  • Manage the Project Team including the Contractors, the Owner-Engineer, the on-site Construction Monitoring Team and other Project administration staff.  The on-site team may include a staff of up to 10 persons including site management, safety, logistics, and quality control
  • Conduct Weekly Meetings including Design Reviews, Coordination with the local Utility (RTO’s) and ERCOT (ISO’s), and Site Coordination
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports for Progress, Safety and Quality
  • Manage Construction and Procurement Contracts, Invoices, Change Order Requests, Submittals, RFI’s. and prepare Cost Forecast Reports
  • Assist with pre-construction activities and with the management of the Project Schedule and Schedule Updates
  • Assist with developing and implementing the Inspection, Testing, Commissioning Plans, and Document Controls Processes
  • Manage the Interconnection Process and Project Close-Out

As a Site Operations Manager in West Union, IL, you report to the Central Division Regional Operations Manager. Operations

  • Provide technical and management support for the design and operations of the solar site
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, reporting, fiscal and administrative functions of the site and for achieving company and group activities 
  • Monitor and manage site performance and availability
  • Supervise site operating personnel and service providers, subcontractors and consultants to ensure quality and conformance to specifications, budgets, schedule and corporate policies
  • Attain substation technician certification within 12 months of hire date
  • Provide any necessary substation and Balance of Plant (BOP) switching Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) functions as required

Safety

  • Manage a safety program that complies with all Federal and State requirements ensuring the safe operation of the site regarding the public, employees and equipment
  • Actively promote a safety-minded working environment and safety programs consistent with the ENGIE Health and Safety Principles and 9 Life Saving Rules
  • Appoint in writing a sites safety representative to administer the safety program
  • Monitor activities of the Plant Safety Committee and ensure its effectiveness

  • In coordination with regional area manager, oversee training to enhance site employees’ technical knowledge in the safe operation and maintenance of the facility and its capital equipment as well as employee professional development
  • Ensure that employee policies and procedures are followed by all sites’ personnel; ensure that the manual has been distributed to all employees and that the policies outlined within are reasonably understood by all staff members
  • Ensure fair implementation of complaint procedures
  • Administer appropriate disciplinary action in a fair and consistent manner, supported by clear, concise and thorough documentation of events and actions resulting in the need for discipline
  • Provide/coordinate relief for operations and/or maintenance supervisor as needed

 

Communications

  • Communicate regularly with ENGIE company representatives (VP of Operations, Director of Operations, Regional  Manager, Head of Renewable Generation, Asset and Partnership Management, Engineering, Regulatory Compliance & Human Resources and Construction Management) for exchange, consultation, guidance and required approvals
  • Maintain open communications with Global Energy Management (GEM) 24-hour desk operations. Ensures changes in plants status are communicated immediately to these individuals
  • Maintain good relations with landowners, suppliers, customers, vendors, service providers, governmental authorities, and contractors.
  • Are personally involved and take innovative actions to ensure good public and community relations on behalf of the facility and the company

 

Financial

  • Ensure the efficient and economical operation and maintenance of the facilities
  • Ensure compliance with Purchase Power Agreements, OEM service agreements and Partnership O&M and Asset Management Agreements with emphasis on optimizing assets and minimizing penalties while ensuring safety of personnel and subcontractors
  • Ensure prompt, timely and accurate reporting as required by company policies and procedures and other governmental and contractual requirements
  • Prepare annual operating plans, budgets and controls for operating at budgeted levels with appropriate justification and approval for variances including sites’ outages (compliant with dispatching needs) and operating shift schedules to accommodate facility operation and scheduled maintenance
  • In coordination with area manager, monitors budget variances on a regular basis and prepares/monitors long term budget forecasts
  • Provide monthly variances reports on a timely manner
  • In coordination with Regional Manager, follows up, assisted by the Asset Management Group, with the proper execution of commercial contracts and assists in bringing solutions to any disagreement that may arise
  • Act as a team member with all employees of ENGIE staff

What You Can Expect

As a Lead Wind Technician, you will report to Ontario West Operations Manager and operate and maintain the site by optimizing wind generation availability and performance through established procedures with the highest regard for health, safety and environment compliance.

 

  • Shall be a leader in safety, upholding safety as a core value
  • Actively participate in the behavior-based safety program and ensure every team member and contractor complies with all safety procedures and applicable task-oriented job safety analyses
  • Ensure site safety rules are communicated and adhered to through Site Specific Orientations, Job Hazard Safety Plan (JSPs) and Tailboard Meetings
  • Demonstrate procedural compliance in all site operation and maintenance activities by utilizing established procedures
  • Facilitate and implement all daily work as the on-site Tech, including coordinating with service providers, contractors, producing Reports including but not limited to Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly reports
  • Operate site equipment, both directly and remotely
  • Monitor site performance
  • Coordinate Switching and Curtailments with relevant local utilities and Independent System Operators (ISOs).
  • Ensure site equipment is kept at the highest possible standard maximizing availability, reliability, efficiency, and profitability
  • Demonstrate work planning skills, activity scheduling and follow up to assure work conformance
  • Perform routine inspections – safely using tools (e.g. multimeter and Infrared Camera)
  • Manage contractors, ensuring quality work, completed safely and promptly
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills that include listening to other’s ideas and viewpoints, earning trust, and resolving conflict situations
  • Primary point of contact for all landowners
  • Manage Spare Parts inventory
  • Coordinate work on site between different contractors
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the site in a clean and neat condition.
  • Recommend operating and/or maintenance changes that will enhance plant performance and availability
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information available to the position
  • Comply with all contractual and legal obligations impacting plant operation
  • Demonstrate the consistent use of Root Cause Failure Analysis techniques when solving plant abnormalities and equipment failures
  • Must be able to analyze complex problems under the pressure of emergency conditions
  • Use computerized Work Order, Purchase Requisition and Receiving software
  • Support other wind assets including solar generating sites for planned and forced outages-may require overnight stays.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • 3-year diploma in a technical program or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience industrial Medium voltage or High voltage
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience at a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) site or a substation Power Plant
  • Trades qualifications an asset: (Lineman, Electrician, Millwright, Control Technician)
  • Ability to effectively use diagnostic equipment
  • Proficient with using a personal computer and software tools to analyze plant performance data and prepare reports or presentations
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain substation equipment such as: electrical control circuits, transformers, high voltage breakers and collection lines
  • Be proficient in using Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System’s & other associated WTG monitoring systems
  • Required to be on call as deemed necessary by your direct manager
  • Must be able to respond to plant emergencies outside of normal working hours
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Verbal and non-verbal, i.e., formal reports
  • Must be able to operate a computer terminal (or have the capability of learning), calculator, etc.
  • High Voltage (HV) experience is preferred; Able to attain AVO substation technician certification within 12 months of hire
  • Must be able to read and understand an electric single line diagram for purpose of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and troubleshooting  
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use  personal computer, office 365
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing, sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks and the like as required); stooping; squatting; crouching; crawling; kneeling; reaching; grasping; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50lbs); feeling; talking and hearing
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, small enclosed areas, etc.) as required
  • Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights greater than 250 feet and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to - fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses, arc-flash clothing, respiratory protection, etc.
  • Able and willing to perform first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires daily attendance at a worksite
  • Reside within 30 minutes of commute to Ontario West Operations Building with the ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Must be available to travel domestically & internationally up to 20% of the time to support operations at other Canadian region sites, training and conferences, with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Canadian driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing 
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies 
  • The position consists of 30% work indoors and 70% work outdoors; outdoor work may expose the employee to adverse weather conditions 

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $37.18 – $54,40 CAD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan, pager pay and call-in pay.
