What You Can Expect

As the Controls Engineer II for ENGIE FlexGen (Flexible Generation including Storage, Thermal, and Hydrogen) North America you will be a key developer in a cross-functional development group. Within ENGIE’s dynamic environment, you will be expected to design, implement and test control algorithms for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Every day, you will provide input on controls, simulation and modeling development in a wide range of software development activities and occasionally be the sole development resource on a project.

 

 

 What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Control Systems, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in developing controls systems
  • Experience in developing controls code using CodeSys, MATLAB/Simulink or other PLC Programming platforms
  • Experience developing or working with Human Machine Interface (HMI) development software such as Ignition, PanelView
  • Strong understanding of network communication architectures, telemetry, and protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, MQTT etc.)
  • Knowledge of Software in the Loop (SIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing paradigms
  • Experience with software development lifecycle tools and version control using GIT

 

Additional Details

Compensation

Salary Range: $103,950 – $206,250 USD annually

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.

Purpose of the job:

Key activities and competencies

Strategic:

  • Lead by example the overall construction project based on 3 priorities:
  • 1. Health and Safety, 2. Quality, 3. Progress
  • Advise the CEO with contractual/commercial issues and claims management.
  • Stakeholder management between the Project and Third Parties.
  • .N.A. in solar projects

Operational:

  • Establish and lead the site team
  • Ensure plant construction quality, schedule, and budget with support of the Owner’s Engineer.
  • Monitor site work and coordinate with contractors and authorities.
  • Be the custodian of the overall Master Construction Schedule
  • Review and issue commissioning and performance test procedures.
  • Handle technical issues during construction with OE support.
  • Supervise and assess the site team’s performance.
  • Facilitate smooth O&M team mobilization.
  • Manage site office operations.

Organisational:

  • Lead technical meetings and design review sessions.
  • Devise site operational procedures related to HSE, E&S, Ethics, Procurementetc.
  • Ensure compliance with Lender’s rules and regulations
  • Health and Safety Officer for site safety.
  • Interact with Lender’s Technical Advisors and insurance advisers.
  • Host site visitors.

Planning & Delivery of Work:

  • Plan and execute corrective actions for variances.
  • Issue progress reports and technical memos.
  • Write technical letters to stakeholders.
  • Identify and issue deliverables and notifications to Off-taker and authorities.
  • Coordinate commissioning with Off-taker and Load Dispatch Center.

Decision Making:

  • Report and propose solutions for technical variances.
  • Analyze Change Order requests and provide recommendations.
  • Make technical decisions during design reviews with OE support.

Working with others:

  • Coordinate with Owner’s Engineer, contractors, and authorities.
  • Empower the Health and Safety team.
  • Interact with Lender’s Technical Advisor, insurance advisers, and O&M Company.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or proven work experience
  • NEBOSH general certificate or similar HSE leadership qualifications

Experience:

  • 10 – 15 years of project and site work experience in similar international projects;
  • Proven success in managing 500+ million USD projects
  • Experience in the Middle East is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Drive and commitment to finish the project with no LTI’s, high quality and on time/budget
  • Leadership: Proven ability to successfully lead and manage teams, including contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders.

 Tus principales responsabilidades serán:

Our Vice President of Operations leads the ENGIE North American Renewables & Storage, Operations and Maintenance organization. This leadership role is essential in maintaining ENGIE North America's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within its  on-shore renewable energy fleet and Battery storage assets. Daily, as an active participant in the North American Renewables Leadership Team, you will be working to move the needle and provide your leadership and experience on the field and office to help us continue to grow an innovative safety first culture that has a data driven approach to operational efficiency, financial performance and compliance.
Safety Leadership:

  • Champion a safety-first culture across all operations, aligning with ENGIE North America's (ENGIE NA) Health & Safety principles, OSHA regulations, and industry standards.
  • Empower employees with Stop Work Authority to address safety concerns, ensuring a proactive safety mindset at all levels.
  • Lead and maintain a robust safety program for ENGIE NA's construction teams.
  • Set and enforce safety, quality, and operational standards for the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams, in line with ENGIE’s global O&M framework

  • Utilize data analytics to optimize fleet performance and maximize safety and profitability.
  • Implement best-in-class processes and controls through the Project Management Office to ensure the excellence of ENGIE’s operating portfolio.
  • Establish and oversee a Remote Operations Center to monitor and manage the renewable and flexible generation fleet effectively.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant educational program  
  • You will have a minimum of Ten (10) years’ or progressive  experience with demonstrated leadership and management of staff focused on Renewable Energy Operations and Maintenance
  • You will have gained expertise in Operations, Maintenance, Dispatch and Optimization of Wind and Solar Assets
