What You Can Expect

As our Project Management Senior (PM) working in a self-managed team concept, you will be a part of the ENGIE capital projects team based at the University of Iowa in Iowa City Iowa.  Our projects are located on both University campuses and include the University Hospital. As part of this team you will be responsible for managing utility infrastructure capital projects associated with expanding and maintaining the utility system on the campus. Projects range in size from $100,000 to $50M, with completion of each taking the span of 1-5 years.

 

This position is being hired in support of a 50 year concession agreement to operate, maintain and enhance the University of Iowa’s utility system.  The projects you’ll take on will involve numerous and diverse projects in the areas of electric and thermal energy production and distribution, and storm- and wastewater infrastructure.

 

No two days are the same, starting with the development stage  you will be submitting reports and conducting meetings with Team members, subcontractors and stakeholders on a regular basis, providing oversight and sharing updates on projects and planning, solving construction challenges through collaboration  and clearing the path and working towards successful completion. The key measurements of success are successful completion of projects with no health, safety or environmental and public relations,  on time and under budget.  You will be managing contracts for both Design and construction of capital projects within the central plants, and managing project teams made of internal staff, external consultants  and Operations and maintenance staff.

 

Additional duties include the following:

  • Administer contracts to include the development of project specifications, a detailed scope of work and principle contract provisions, working closely with corporate Contracts Management and the Procurement Department
  • Work with the University stakeholders, ENGIE colleagues, and ENGIE contractors, including engineers, architects, construction firms, and other contractors to develop and execute projects
  • Partner with Program Manager and Operations and Maintenance leadership to identify potential projects and develop business justifications

 

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • You have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or in a related field from an ABET accredited institution.
  • You will have gained a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the successful management of construction or Maintenance projects in which you gained experience with managing complex projects to successful completion, such as those involving schools, hospitals, manufacturing or universities
  • Possess or have the desire to achieve a PMP Certification
  • You will have experience in fostering and adhering to the highest safety standards, ensuring the safety of all employees, contractors, and the general public
  • You will have gained expertise in developing work packages for execution to include: statement of scope, change management, performance testing, QA/QC Requirements, Parts/Tools, Man-hours, Material Procurement, technical data Sheets, Drawings/Specifications, Task Procedures and job safety plans
  • You will have gained experience creating and giving presentations and professional  communications, using Microsoft Office, Procore, or other project management tools, to create written reports, project updates, and reporting data for all stakeholders including your management team, contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • You are experienced with managing the financial and contractual aspects of capital projects
  • You will have demonstrated ability to create a team culture of camaraderie, integrity and trust among the integrated project team members  and exhibits excellent interpersonal skills that include listening to other’s ideas and viewpoints and the resolution of conflict situations
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and ensure performance expectations and resultant outcomes are met

Compensation 

Salary Range: $96,100 – $147,660 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE North America is searching for a Utility Performance Engineering Intern. This role is based on campus at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.  Engie currently collects real-time data from thousands of process points from the utility and building automation systems on the University of Iowa campus. This information is vital to maintaining the efficient operation of the University’s utilities.

 

Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting. 

 

Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).

 

Hours are flexible but this person should average 10-15 hours/week during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.

  • Build replicas of automation displays linked to live data using PI Vision software.  Add and update tag in the PI System. Design reports using PI Datalink add-in to Excel
  • Assist with any other data entry or reporting as necessary 
  • Assist in the preparation of performance improvement reports, testing plans, and procedure updates 
  • Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs
  • Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

  • You must be currently enrolled at the University of Iowa in Engineering or Computer Science programs or pathways
  • You have completed course work in thermodynamics and other energy related courses

What You Can Expect

Our Site Administrator I will be working with ENGIE’s Water Plant Operations and Maintenance Team and will report to the Water Plant Manager. This position is located at the University Of Iowa Campus in Iowa City, IA. 

 

The schedule offered is 7:00am – 3:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday-Friday.

 

  • Every day you will be working with our water distribution, and plant personnel.  You will be responsible for generating purchase orders to vendors, and assisting with the expediating, delivery and close out of purchase orders. You will be using a computerized maintenance system (CMMS) to assign materials to work orders. Other frequent tasks include assisting with onboarding/ offboarding employees, scheduling training, and maintaining certifications for staff, purchasing of uniforms.   
  • You will maintain and monitor inventory, process invoices and purchase orders. You will be assisting the Plant Manager with cost and procurement controls, budget preparation and review, resolution of billing, vendor management, reports and correspondence preparation. You will also serve as a member of the local safety committee. 
  • Additional tasks include, Production of documents and reports as requested by operational leaders.  Completing data entry for customer billing, and supervising Interns data entry assignments. Maintaining routine plant operating logs and reports.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum education of  a High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of administrative or other relevant experience involving, purchasing, inventory or data entry
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative and secretarial functions
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Application suite
  • Ability to create clear and concise correspondence suitable for customers, Senior Leadership and other stakeholders

ENGIE North America is seeking a Chilled Water Systems Tech I for a critical role on our University of Iowa team. In this position, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating, as well as performing preventative maintenance and repair tasks on the chilled water plant(s). Reporting to the Chilled Water Plant Manager, this position is located on the beautiful University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA.

 

Your day will begin with a safety or hand-off meeting, where you will be briefed on the status of the equipment and any issues that may have arisen during the previous shift. Following this, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of turbines, centrifugal chillers, pumps, electric motors, tower fans, and related equipment.

 

Key responsibilities include assisting in the installation and repair of pressure piping for compressed air, water, steam, domestic water, condenser water, chilled water, and condensate. Additionally, you will support the general maintenance of equipment such as chiller tube bundles, heat exchangers, tower fans, gearboxes, drive shafts, pumps, valves, air compressors, and all other plant-related equipment.  These tasks will require utilization of hoisting and rigging tools to move heavy equipment, and proper application of power and hand tools to perform repairs.

Your daily responsibilities will involve assisting project managers and contract advisors in the contracting and procurement process for all capital improvement projects on Campus. This includes supporting the development and tracking of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages, ensuring alignment with project schedules and stakeholder requirements. You'll take the lead in the contract bidding process for low-risk contracts, acting as the single point of contact for bidders, organizing site visits, and issuing RFP addenda as needed. Ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate governance requirements in our contracts will be a key aspect of your role. Additionally, you'll play a pivotal role in negotiating with selected bidders, employing a documented process and sound judgment to resolve scope, terms, and other discrepancies.

 

You'll also contribute to the procurement process by creating vendor-related agreements for services and materials, and participate in the development and tracking of legal documents such as contractual submittals, notices, and change orders as necessary. Furthermore, you'll review supplier/contract project invoicing for compliance with contracts, support project close-out documentation requirements using provisional acceptance and final acceptance contract documentation, and track, evaluate, and qualify new and existing contractor relationships. Providing support on contractual claims and disputes will also be part of your responsibilities.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Applied Business, or Bachelor of Business Administration, Supply Chain or other similar degree

As our Project Management, Senior (PM) working in a self-managed team concept, you will be a part of the ENGIE capital projects team based at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  Our projects are located on two local University campuses, and includes the University Hospital. This position is being hired in support of a 50 year concession agreement to operate, maintain and enhance the University of Iowa’s utility system.  The projects you’ll take on will involve numerous and diverse projects in the areas of electric and thermal energy production and distribution, and storm- and wastewater infrastructure.

 

No two days are the same, starting with the development stage  you will be submitting reports and conducting meetings with Team members, subcontractors and stakeholders on a regular basis, providing oversight and sharing updates on projects and planning, solving construction challenges through collaboration  and clearing the path and working towards successful completion. The key measurements of success are successful completion of projects with no health, safety or environmental and public relations,  on time and under budget.  You will be managing contracts for both Design and construction of capital projects within the central plants, and managing project teams made of internal staff, external consultants  and Operations and maintenance staff.

  • Administer design and construction contracts to include the development of project specifications, a detailed scope of work and principle contract provisions, working closely with corporate Contracts Management and the Procurement Department

As a Utility Plant Operator I (UPO I) at our University of Iowa location, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating power generation equipment that powers campus facilities, including the University Hospital. This equipment includes, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying systems, control valves, mobile equipment, and other industrial equipment.

 

Each day begins with a handoff from the previous shift to understand the current operating status of the plant and tasks to be completed. The primary task of a UPO I involves the safe operation of the plant's equipment. You will conduct hourly rounds, monitoring equipment status, checking for leaks or abnormalities. Additional responsibilities include housekeeping tasks, and completing logs at the end of rounds and shift. Assisting with weekly preventive maintenance (PM) during day shifts.

We currently operate three steam generators and four natural gas-powered generators. Communication of pertinent information among shift members, support personnel, maintenance, and management is facilitated through Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo (our Computerized Maintenance Management System).

 

The UPO I may also provide relief and support in other job classifications, including Maintenance and Fuel Unloading. Other duties include performing regular testing and treatment of boiler water as directed and checking offsite equipment located at the Hospital and West Campus.

This position follows a rotating shift schedule, rotating between days and nights every two weeks. You will work seven scheduled days every fourteen days (Dupont rotating schedule), including nights, holidays, and weekends.

 

Availability for vacation coverage, emergency relief, and overtime as required by the plant management team is essential.

Utility Plant Operator II

What You Can Expect

As a Utility Plant Operator II (UPO II) at our University of Iowa location, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating power generation equipment that powers campus facilities, including the University Hospital. This equipment includes, boilers, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying systems, control valves, and mobile equipment.

 

Each day begins with a handoff from the previous shift to understand the current operating status of the plant and tasks to be completed. The primary task of a UPO II involves the safe operation of the plant's boilers. You will conduct hourly rounds, monitoring pressures, checking for leaks or abnormalities. Additional responsibilities include monitoring pressure reducing valves, completing logs at the end of the shift, and performing weekly preventive maintenance (PM) during day shifts. We currently operate three steam generators and four natural gas-powered generators. Communication of pertinent information among shift members, production support personnel, maintenance, and management is facilitated through Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo (our Computerized Maintenance Management System).

 

The UPO II may also provide relief and support in other job classifications, including Maintenance and Fuel Unloading. Other duties include performing regular testing and treatment of boiler water as directed and checking offsite equipment such as the Hospital boiler and West Campus boiler.

This position follows a rotating shift schedule, rotating between days and nights every two weeks. You will work seven scheduled days every fourteen days (Dupont rotating schedule), including nights, holidays, and weekends.

 

Availability for vacation coverage, emergency relief, and overtime as required by the plant management team is essential.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • High School Degree or GED equivalent required
  • A minimum of three (3) years industrial plant,  process plant, shipboard power & propulsion or power plant experience operating boilers, pumps, fans, conveyors
  • A minimum of One (1) year experience operating solid fuel and/or gas/oil fired water tube boilers, turbine generators and related plant equipment required

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • You must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record, operation of company owned vehicles is required
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Required to be on call as needed/deemed necessary by Supervisor/Management
  • Required to have a personal telephone to be able to receive emergency notifications
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, and digitally  using a company provided computer, to work with standard software applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication
  • Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting  
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required
  • Must be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc. 
  • Working Environment (Indoors – 90% Outdoors – 10%) 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
    • The Power Plant can be an extremely hot environment
    • Areas of the Power Plant can be dusty
    • The Power Plant noise level is usually moderate to high

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $27.45 - $39.42 hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
