What You Can Expect

As the Electrician I, under general supervision, you will apply knowledge, skills and abilities at the journey level to install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electric utility substation, distribution and production plant electrical equipment. Additionally, you will determine jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required, procures materials, coordinates outages, completes work, places systems back into service.

 

  • Installs, operates, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electric utility systems including low voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, protection and control systems, lighting, ventilation and pumping systems, battery systems, instrumentation, motor starters and controls and conduit, cable and wiring systems operating at less than 600 volts.
  • Interprets and maintains wiring diagrams, schematics, updates system logs, drawings and documentation on utility systems
  • Works around and with medium voltage (600 volts to 15kV) utility systems under the direction of High Voltage Electricians

 

What You’ll Bring 

  • This role requires a minimum educational level of a High School Diploma or GED
  • State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license; valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of electrical utility systems, troubleshooting methods, trade principles, and maintenance tools
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, utility standards, safety regulations, and hazard precautions
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, control system drawings, and repair manuals

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $26.59 – $44.33USD hourly

As a Water Plant Operator Trainee, you'll operate a Grade IV surface water treatment plant at the University of Iowa. Utility Plant Operator I

Utility Plant Operator I

What You Can Expect

As a Utility Plant Operator I (UPO I) at our University of Iowa location, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating power generation equipment that powers campus facilities, including the University Hospital. This equipment includes, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying systems, control valves, mobile equipment, and other industrial equipment.

 

Each day begins with a handoff from the previous shift to understand the current operating status of the plant and tasks to be completed. The primary task of a UPO I involves the safe operation of the plant's equipment. You will conduct hourly rounds, monitoring equipment status, checking for leaks or abnormalities. Additional responsibilities include housekeeping tasks, and completing logs at the end of rounds and shift. Assisting with weekly preventive maintenance (PM) during day shifts.

 

We currently operate three steam generators and four natural gas-powered generators. Communication of pertinent information among shift members, support personnel, maintenance, and management is facilitated through Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Maximo (our Computerized Maintenance Management System).

 

The UPO I may also provide relief and support in other job classifications, including Maintenance and Fuel Unloading. Other duties include performing regular testing and treatment of boiler water as directed and checking offsite equipment located at the Hospital and West Campus.

This position follows a rotating shift schedule, rotating between days and nights every two weeks. You will work seven scheduled days every fourteen days (Dupont rotating schedule), including nights, holidays, and weekends.

 

Availability for vacation coverage, emergency relief, and overtime as required by the plant management team is essential.

 

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of two (2) years industrial plant,  process plant, shipboard power & propulsion or power plant experience operating boilers, pumps, fans, conveyors or similar experience

  • Maintain equipment inventory databases under the guidance of Distribution management and planning staff, using spreadsheets, databases, CMMS, or ArcGIS as appropriate

 

What You’ll Bring                      

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field
  • A proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

 

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies 

 

Compensation

Hourly Range: $21.00 – $27.00 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
