What You Can Expect

As a Solar Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, optimizing grid-scale solar power systems (100MW+), and providing sustainable energy solutions that help drive our renewable energy mission forward in North America.  

 

Every day in this role:

Preliminary Design and Optimization: Support the design and optimization of grid-scale solar projects (100MW+), including developing conceptual design configurations and advising on development pipeline and M&A projects

Coordination and Collaboration: Work with solar team members, development staff, project delivery teams, and the procurement team to identify project design constraints, requirements, and necessary equipment for optimal site design

Technical Expertise and Communication: Serve as the technical point of contact for solar project development, effectively communicate technical subject matter to non-technical staff, and stay updated on industry trends

Site Production and Optimization: Coordinate and review site production and optimization efforts using various evaluation software (e.g., Sift, PVcase, AutoCAD, pvDesign, Pvsyst)

Consultant and Team Management: Assist with scoping, contracting, and managing consultants for design and technical services, and collaborate with ENGIE Engineering teams to leverage in-house experience and knowledge, sharing lessons learned in grid-scale solar generation to build institutional knowledge within ENGIE North America

 

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering,  Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline is required

Minimum of two (2) years experience with grid-scale solar project engineering design and optimization

Experience or close coordination with CAD and GIS software platforms for solar site layouts

Experience with PVsyst or other solar production models for estimating energy production and optimizing solar facilities

Must be able to communicate complex technical subject matter information to a wide range of audiences verbally and in written communication

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and demonstrate excellent organizational and project management skills

What You Can Expect

As the Senior Electrical, Project Engineer, you will manage the engineering activities related to design for utility-scale renewables projects (wind, solar, and energy storage) throughout the US and Canada and serve as a main point of contact.

 

Every day in this role you will:

  • Manage multiple projects, coordinate design meetings with Consultants or Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Contractors, and schedule regular meetings and communications with the project team. Review and monitor contractors’ progress and key project milestones
  • Provide engineering technical input at various project stages, coordinate design efforts with EPC or external consultants, and review design submittals with support from ENGIE subject matter experts (Civil and Electrical)
  • Update standards and specifications based on lessons learned, manage external engineering firms and subcontractors, and ensure all deliverables meet project specifications. Actively identify and manage critical risks, issues, and impacts, ensuring adherence to corporate health & safety and environmental requirements
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Development, Engineering, Operations, Permitting, GIS, and Land group), assist procurement in running RFPs and managing sub-contractors, and support crossing exhibits. Facilitate professional development and networking opportunities
  • Stay updated on new technologies, regulatory conditions, industry best practices, and safety standards. Perform site assessments, design review meetings, and due diligence throughout the USA and Canada to support site evaluation, development, and permitting activities

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or comparable technical knowledge through demonstrated work experience with a solid understanding of power generation plants

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in similar positions, managing renewable energy projects and producing standards, specifications, and documentation
  • Experience in detailed and conceptual design of renewable energy project facilities, with a preference for electrical background (Substations, Collection system, Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Wind, SCADA, Transmission). Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD is preferred
  • Experience and understanding of the owner’s engineer role and technical due diligence. Professional Engineer (PE) License and PMI Certification are a plus, but not required. We appreciate diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Experience in day-to-day interactions with project development and construction teams. Ability to communicate effectively with project team and stakeholders, including contractors
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Experience and understanding of commercial contracts and negotiations

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on an as needed project basis
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips

Compensation

Salary Range: $99,000 – $151,800 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Everyday in this role you will:

  • Develop and Update Specifications: Lead the development of civil and foundation technical specifications for project designs and construction, and update standards based on lessons learned
  • Coordinate and Review Designs: Coordinate engineering design efforts with EPC, review design submittals with owner’s engineer support, and manage design coordination and reviews of foundations, racking/mounting equipment, BESS foundations, access roads, drainage plans, and erosion prevention
  • Evaluate and Manage Project Sites: Evaluate potential project locations for suitability based on geotechnical conditions, hydrology, topography, and other relevant factors, and manage external engineering firms, subcontractors, and various engineering disciplines to ensure high-quality project execution
  • Support and Collaborate: Lead the Civil group, support Project Engineering Managers, coordinate with Development, Permitting, GIS, and Land groups, and collaborate with independent engineering (IE) reviews
  • Procurement and Training: Assist procurement in running RFPs and managing the hiring process for civil, foundation, and geotechnical subcontractors, support operations teams with corrective actions and design-related issues, stay updated on new technologies and regulatory conditions, and train and mentor new hires, junior engineers, interns, and co-ops

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, from an ABET-accredited university or comparable technical knowledge through demonstrated work experience with a solid understanding of civil design, power generation plants, and/or utility systems
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in similar positions, designing renewable energy projects and producing standards, specifications, and documentation
  • Proficiency in civil design tools such as AutoCAD

Additional Details

  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy and will require regular travel to project sites to perform site assessments, construction meetings and due diligence of fieldwork throughout the USA and Canada in support of site evaluation, project earthworks, and construction activities.

What You Can Expect

The Senior Estimator is responsible for estimating Balance of Plant costs (BOP) for wind, solar, and BESS projects. Understanding construction costs is vital to the success of the project and plays a key role during all phases of project development and implementation. The person in this role will provide estimates and pricing information for all facets of renewable project construction.

 

  • Prepare budgetary and indicative BOP construction estimates for large pipeline of wind, solar, and BESS projects by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
  • Develop unit pricing based on production rates and subcontractor input
  • Review and incorporate historical data from estimates, cost data, indexes, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and worker-hour figures
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures
  • Interface with owner, contractor, design team, and project managers to provide cost data regarding project feasibility
  • Review major equipment specifications to determine cost impacts associated with new technology
  • Review third party pricing proposals for accuracy and gaps

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Four-year degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related construction estimating experience

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience estimating BOP costs for utility scale wind, solar, and BESS projects
  • Estimating experience with Heavy Bid and other heavy construction related estimating software, electronic cost data, e.g., RSMeans
  • GIS, AutoCAD, or equivalent experience a plus
  • A proven track record of estimating construction project costs
  • Ability to establish and maintain a network or building material suppliers and vendors
  • Ability to review maps, conceptual diagrams, specifications, engineering drawings, equipment specifications, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Superior Microsoft Software Applications skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)

  • Lead and support commissioning activities, collaborating closely with EPC contractors on-site
  • Manage all facets of plant commissioning, including equipment inspection, system checkout, and daily activity oversight
  • Review and communicate start-up schedules with the engineering team, project manager, and senior management
  • Provide technical support to ensure project completion within regulatory standards and budget constraints
  • Take ownership of component and system integrity, coordinating with various departments to fulfill contractual obligations
  • Assist the project manager in compiling turnover packages for operations

 

Commissioning Duties:

  • Develop and implement a commissioning philosophy, plan, schedule, standards, and procedures
  • Refine commissioning methodologies and tools to support organizational growth
  • Collaborate with project managers to create and finalize punch lists before system/equipment commissioning
  • Ensure pre-commissioning and commissioning provisions are included in engineering drawings and specifications
  • Verify design and equipment compliance with owner requirements and commissioning plans through reviews of submittals, manuals, reports, and training programs
  • Analyze test results and generate reports to confirm technical specification adherence
  • Initiate commissioning plans and coordinate pre-commissioning activities, including factory acceptance tests
  • Function as the primary liaison among construction, commissioning, and operations teams to foster cooperation and minimize conflicts
  • Direct commissioning procedures and lead a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and support personnel
  • Oversee inspection processes to guarantee timely delivery that meets customer expectations and specifications
  • Conduct thorough system quality control inspections and maintain detailed punch lists.
  • Address and resolve site commissioning issues promptly
  • Monitor plant operations and offer guidance to the operations team as needed
  • Report commissioning, start-up schedule, and progress concerns to the project manager
  • Maintain an organized documentation system for all commissioning reports and ensure daily updates
  • Report technical deviations through non-conformance reports (NCRs)
  • Contribute to the development of project workforce estimates and system commissioning schedules
  • Organize vendor requirements and coordinate specialized equipment schedules
  • Formulate action plans to bridge any gaps in the commissioning schedule or plan
  • Manage commissioning site visits, evaluation of new and existing sites
  • Ensure the highest level of environmental health and safety is incorporated in all electrical engineering and design aspects of ENGIE’s renewable energy generation projects

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related field of study

  • A minimum of seven (7) years professional electrical engineering experience with a focus on plant commissioning or commissioning of utility scale Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage projects. NFPA 70Ecertification course and OSHA
  • Clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures
  • Expertise in advanced Inverter commissioning, including operation, communication, troubleshooting, and relevant manufacturer training or certification
  • Proficiency with medium voltage AC collection systems and High Voltage substation design principles
  • Proficiency with Medium Voltage Transformers and other Renewable Energy Balance of System (BOS) Advanced Construction, structural, electrical single-line, three-line drawings markups, red-lines, and RFIs
  • In-depth knowledge of Utility and Interconnection requirements and Equipment, including Substation and points of interconnection (POI)
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret technical documentation, including system and equipment plans, specifications, and manuals
  • Familiarization with ERCOT and other Independent System Operators (ISO) New Generator Commissioning Requirements
