The Role
You'll collaborate with our teams to oversee and provide accounting services, taking charge of financial reporting responsibilities that span across GEMS ANZ. This includes offering technical accounting guidance and ensuring compliance, particularly in relation to the accounting for our wholesale energy trading portfolios.
You'll be the accounting subject matter expert for our wholesale energy trading operations. Your role will involve providing technical accounting advice, including drafting accounting papers for business units related to new derivatives within your areas of responsibility and play a crucial role in identifying and implementing enhancements to streamline processes within the Financial Accounting team, focusing on continuous improvement and adding value.
Your responsibilities will include managing the month-end close process by preparing month-end journals accurately and promptly. This will involve tasks such as posting and validating manual journal entries in the Finance ERP, reconciling discrepancies between the Finance ERP and trading systems, accounting for gas and green certificates, and ensuring the achievement of gross margin targets. You will also contribute to the year-end audit by coordinating with auditors and providing necessary information as required. Additionally, you will ensure the timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations, making sure they are clear, accurate, and well-supported.
Your role will require you to prepare compliance reports, such as AFSL, accurately and on time. You will participate in process improvements and enhance task performance. Furthermore, you will coach and support other members of the GEMS Finance team and manage the Finance stream in the deal capture implementation project.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in Finance or Accounting and CA Qualified or equivalent
- Knowledge of energy commodity derivative products and the relevant accounting expertise
- Proven expertise in financial reporting and control functions
- Strong stakeholder engagement abilities to facilitate decision-making across various functions
