What You Can Expect

As a Water Plant Operator Trainee, you will help operate and maintain water treatment systems across the University of Iowa, ensuring high-quality water through processes like chlorination, filtration, and UV disinfection. You'll assist with sampling, flushing, equipment maintenance, and compliance reporting while supporting systems at the Oakdale Plant, MacBride Recreation Area, and various campus sites.

 

  • Collect water samples for regulatory testing and ensure accurate data entry for compliance and billing
    Perform and coordinate routine maintenance and calibration of treatment equipment
  • Track water quality and system performance using computer-based tools and complete assigned tasks through the work order system

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to obtain State of Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Certified Pool Operator Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain a State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources Grade 1 Water Treatment and Grade 1 Distribution certification within 2 years of employment
  • Ability to complete one-year operational experience in the area applying: water treatment, water distribution, wastewater or complete a minimum of six months operational experience in the area applying and earn 30 hours of Post High School Training (3 CEUs)

Compensation

Hourly Range: $21.49 – $32.90 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

What You Can Expect

As our EHS Intern, at ENGIE’s Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP), you will be performing support work for the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) that includes development of procedures, assistance with projects and other tasks to assist the EHS Manager while using your exposure to MATEP to enhance your education in the EHS, facilities and power generation field. The internship work term will be June 2, 2025 – August 22, 2025The EHS Intern reports to the EHS Manager.

 

You will:

 

  • Work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities; you may be required to work overtime - relief, off-shift, and emergency coverage (nights, weekends,) and/or other, as needed

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety at an accepted four-year university
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • You will perform other related duties as required 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • You can work at least forty (40) hours of consistently-scheduled availability within standard working hours (7:30am – 4pm) in Eastern Standard time, Monday – Friday. Exact hours are negotiable
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consists of 25% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions

Junior Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose:

     The Electrical Facility Engineer will be responsible for Engineering Operations including risk management and mitigation, corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure, vendor management and metric reporting. The candidate is responsible for ensuring that all Electrical, ELV, and fire/life safety equipment within the facility is operating at peak efficiency. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all Electrical-related facility operations. This equipment includes but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, and building automation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the on-site management of DC, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & Site local legislation.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
  • Generate job cards & incident management tickets for the facility.
  • Work with managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability and efficiency.
  • Establish documentation relevant to business & facility operations.
  • Manage routine maintenance and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, building monitoring systems, etc.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning and build-out of new facilities.
  • Drive & implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability & reliability.
  • Management of the facility, in the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management.
  • Review contract compliance & ensure all SLAs are achieved.
  • Business interface with Facility Management for day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Assist in recruiting efforts.
  • Delivery of exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
  • Maintain, and operate all Electrical systems and associated equipment, electrical equipment, and building management system.
  • Perform facility inspections and report on conditions affecting operations.
  • Create the Job cards in the CAFM App as per Site requirements and follow up on the Job cards until close by the Technician.
  • Responding promptly and efficiently to emergency calls.
  • Prepare and submit Monthly reports of conditions in buildings and recommend actions to be taken
  • Review and understand equipment and methods of operation, Electrical systems, ELV systems, fire/life safety, and other systems.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and requirements
  • Maintain essential stock of spare parts.
  • Support any after-hours building needs and activities as required
  • Familiarity with datacenter guidelines and standards especially Tier III design standards and ASME/ASHRAE/NFPA.
  • Ability to handle rotation Shifts on a Monthly basis.

Skills Required:

  •  
  • Good knowledge of power systems (UPS, Control Panels, DB’s, Busway systems, Generators, Fire & Safety, ELV Systems)
  • Basic knowledge of cooling systems (HVACs, Chillers)
  • Working knowledge of UPS systems and associated switch gear and Distribution Panels
  • Working knowledge of standby generator systems and associated switch gear.
  • Skill in installation, repair and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components.
  • Understand and perform the MV & HV switching as per business needs.
  • Hands-on experience in maintenance shutdown activities of MV systems is a must.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Property & Facilities Management / Intelligent Building Technology / Facilities Management or equivalent

  • At least 2 years working experience in building maintenance 

  • Preferably with experience in service and maintenance 

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians and manage their work effectively. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute ad-hoc minor work projects. 

  • Has a good safety mindset and displays good WSH behaviour.
