By ENGIE - 26 October 2021 - 11:51

The KiteFoil World Championships were held in Torregrande, Italy from 11 to 17 October. A total of 138 competitors - 89 men and 49 women - representing 34 countries and six continents battled it out in the stunning Gulf of Oristano.

Recently crowned European Champions, Poema Newland and Axel from Team ENGIE went to Italy with big ambitions.

Axel Mazella confirmed his position. In the lead for all 14 races, he was head-to-head with his compatriot Théo De Ramecourt all week long. In Sunday's final, Benoit Gomez and the Italian Ricardo Pianosi were also battling it out for the title. After the two final races, one of which Axel won, Théo De Ramecourt was crowned World Champion.

In the women's races, Team ENGIE kiteboard racer Poema, ranked third before the final, competed against reigning World Champion Daniela Moroz, British racer Eleanor Aldridge, and her French teammate Lauriane Nolot. After just one race in the final, the American reigning champion Daniela Moroz maintained her title. Britain's Eleanor Aldridge and the French racer Lauriane Nolot came second and third respectively.
Poema, 2021 European Champion, finished in a frustrating fourth place.
