Madeleine Malonga and Luka Mkheidze churn out the wins

Both of our judokas returned with medals from the Antalya Grand Slam last weekend. Madeleine Malonga won all of her fights and landed herself a gold. We should find out in the coming days who has qualified for this summer. The judoka showed extraordinary determination and very fine technique, like with the ippon that she scored in the finals!

Luka Mkheidze ended up with a silver, having suffered a knee injury during the fight. Luka has shown incredible consistency throughout the competitions in which he has taken part this year: first in the Paris Grand Slam, second in the Baku Grand Slam and second in the Antalya Grand Slam last weekend.

Axel Mazella, European champion, Poema Newland, third

Team ENGIE’s two kiteboarders shone particularly brightly at the last European kitesurfing championships which were held in the Mar Menor lagoon in Spain.

Axel Mazella won his fourth European championship title – a staggering performance given the knee ligament injury that he suffered in early January. This allows him to qualify for July. Poema Newland secured third place just behind two other French athletes: Lauriane Nolot and Jessie Kapman. Three French people in the top three is evidence of the national team's excellence. They have chosen one person to represent France this summer : Lauriane Nolot.

Raphaël Beaugillet, world speed vice champion para sports track cyclist

Following his France championship title alongside pilot Quentin Caleyron (Team SNCF), Raphael Beaugillet, Team ENGIE's track para cyclist, qualified for this summer at the world championships in Rio (21-23 March), where he had to finish on the podium in the standing-start kilometre event. Given his fourth position finish, his chances were seriously compromised. However, 48 hours later, he secured a silver medal in the speed event and came fifth in the mixed speed team event.

Elodie Clouvel – back in the fold

Team ENGIE's pentathlete Elodie Clouvel made her return for the first round of the World Cup in Cairo. She qualified among the 18 finalists, finishing in 13th position. The result itself is fairly meaningless – what came across during the competition was Elodie’s sheer determination, as well as how far she has come along the path towards this summer.

The next step for her will be the second round of the World Cup in Ankara, Turkey, scheduled for mid-April.

Future major Team ENGIE fixtures:

  • 16 – 21 April: Second round of the World Cup for Elodie Clouvel (Ankara, Turkey)
  • 20 – 27 April: SOF for Axel Mazella (Hyères, France)
  • 23 – 28 April: Third round of the World Cup for Elodie Clouvel (Budapest, Hungary)
  • 25 – 28 April: World judo championships for Madeleine Malonga (Zagreb, Croatia)
  • 27 April to 4 May: CS Gold Coast for Pauline Ado (Australia)
