SPONSORSHIP AND PATRONAGE

After a career spanning 20 years, the last eight of which were supported by ENGIE, Pierre Le Coq is retiring from sport

Pierre Le Coq has bowed out at the end of these world windsurfing championships in Lanzarote. Coming 40th is relatively meaningless for somebody who has been windsurfing since he was nine years old: “I feel extremely emotional right now. Tens of hundreds of images are passing through my mind. It has been a crazy adventure – from a sports as well as from a human perspective. And I think that from a human perspective, this IQFoil Olympiad has certainly been the finest. It was incredible! I am delighted to have got this far. From a sports perspective, I stopped a few months ago, but I was very keen to experience this last championship in these exceptional conditions here in Lanzarote. I wasn't disappointed and I am pleased to have managed some fine races with a number of excellent runs in the top 10. It was particularly pleasing as only young people were finishing strongly. I have watched them grow up – they are fantastic, they are the future”.

Pierre Le Coq

The Briton Pierre Le Coq will be remembered for his excellent sporting achievements, as well as for his commitment to his sport: it is about enjoying it first and foremost. World champion in 2015 and then bronze medal winner a year later in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Pierre also secured 15 international podium places in the RS :X windsurfing class. The switch to the iQFoil windsurfing class was too challenging given his size, so he made the decision to stop before the deadline this coming summer.

Since 2015, Pierre Le Coq had been supported by the ENGIE Group via the Performance Pact, something which enabled him to compete in two consecutive Olympiads: Rio and then Tokyo, where he just missed out on qualifying.

This Brittany-born man is now going to devote all his time to his family and parents: “I have other projects, including a new dental surgery and a second baby on the way. But I will never stray too far away from the water – I have so much to share”.

We would like to wish this athlete who is retiring from Team ENGIE and who managed to delight employees and supporters throughout his career every happiness.
