ENGIE is a supporter of the 38th International Mathematical and Logical Games Championship, organized by the Fédération Française des Jeux Mathématiques. The 2024 edition attracted over 27,000 participants in the quarter-finals, 3,500 in the semi-finals, and 600 in the national final, all facing intense and stimulating mathematical challenges.
The aim of this annual championship is to inspire a passion for mathematics by presenting the discipline in a fun and engaging way, while also encouraging the participation of women in scientific fields. This year, 42% of participants were women.
Thanks to ENGIE’s support, 2 new innovative challenges were introduced: a competition for grandes écoles (top-tier university) students in gender-balanced teams, and a “maths and girls” event called the Coupe de France des lycéennes.
The international final of the championship, held on August 25th and 26th, 2024 at the École Polytechnique, brought together 500 participants from 15 countries. This number included 89 French participants across 8 categories, ranging from elementary students to adults, as well as mixed French student teams and 11 high school girls from different regions of France. At the awards ceremony, Claire Waysand, Executive Vice President of ENGIE, presented the Coupe de France des lycéennes to Olivia Kahn, in the presence of mathematician Hugo Duminil-Copin, winner of the Fields Medal in 2022 and tenure professor at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques, which is supported by the ENGIE Foundation.
ENGIE's partnership with this international championship highlights its commitment to promoting gender equality, particularly in scientific fields, and contributes to increasing female representation in engineering schools and careers in the long term. This initiative reflects the Group's broader commitment to education, inclusion and diversity in scientific fields, aligning perfectly with its social responsibility and talent development goals.
