ENGIE Care: comprehensive social protection for ENGIE employees

By ENGIE - 07 November 2024 - 10:54

At ENGIE, we know that the wellbeing of our employees is the key to our collective success. That is why we have set up the ENGIE Care program, which guarantees all Group employees, whatever their status or country, a minimum basis of social protection.

What is ENGIE Care?

ENGIE Care is a global social protection program that covers all Group employees. Whatever the size of the entity, or the country in which it operates, each and every employee benefits from a minimum level of social protection.

The program is built on four key pillars:

  • Parenting: 14 weeks of fully paid maternity leave and 4 weeks of fully paid paternity leave. ENGIE Care enables each parent to experience the birth of their child to the full, while ensuring financial peace of mind.
  • Invalidity: In the event of permanent and total disability, ENGIE Care guarantees our employees financial security with a payment equivalent to 12 months’ gross salary.  This pillar provides solid protection in the event of accident or illness, whether work-related or not.
  • Hospitalization: ENGIE Care provides minimum coverage for 75% of hospitalization expenses, thus giving our employees peace of mind  in the knowledge that they will be protected in the event of medical emergency.
  • Life cover: In the event of death, the program offers a lump sum equal to 12 months’ gross salary to the employee’s next of kin, thus providing them with much needed support at a difficult time.

“Five years ago, ENGIE’s leadership committed to guaranteeing a minimum level of protection for all of its employees. (...) We co-designed minimum standards with the countries and regions that were both ambitious and budget-friendly. (...) ENGIE Care represents very tangible progress. Take the United States, where paid maternity leave didn’t exist, or the United Arab Emirates, where all of our employees now benefit from a four-week paid paternity leave, where none existed before!”

ENGIE Care in action

Since its launch in 2020, ENGIE Care has had a tangible and direct impact on the everyday lives of our employees:

  • 30% of our employees have seen their hospitalization coverage strengthened;
  • Maternity leave has been extended and/or better paid for over 30% of our female employees;
  • By January 1, 2025, 100% of our employees will benefit from paid paternity leave, compared to 4% in 2020;
  • Nearly half our employees (and their families) have benefited from improved coverage in the event of disability or death.

Here are a few examples that show how this program has made a real difference:

  • Parenting in Mexico:

    In a  country where the legal period of paternity leave is only 5 days, ENGIE Care offers new fathers 4 full weeks of leave, fully paid. In the United Arab Emirates, this same level of paternity leave has been introduced where none previously existed.

  • Hospitalization in the United States:

    In the United States, where hospitalization costs can be three to four times higher than in other countries, ENGIE Care covers 75% of medical expenses incurred

  • Invalidity and death in Germany:

    In Germany, our employees and their families  now benefit from coverage equivalent to 12 months' salary in the event of permanent disability or death.

  • Maternity Leave in the United States:

    In a country where laws differ and which often only ensures a few weeks paid maternity leave,  ENGIE Care provides all mothers with 14 weeks of fully paid leave.

These examples illustrate our commitment to offering our employees social benefits considerably over and above local standards.

Why ENGIE Care?

ENGIE Care is more than just a social protection program. It embodies our commitment to providing support to our employees in their everyday concerns and to offering them a working environment in which they feel safe and valued.

ENGIE Care also contributes to gender equality by offering all employees the same advantages, whatever their country or status. This program is also an essential enabler for strengthening work-life balance.

We do not simply strive to meet local norms, we go beyond them.  ENGIE Care supplements and strengthens national social protection schemes to offer our employees a level of security they would not find elsewhere, which makes all the difference for those joining our company.

ENGIE CARE – a few key figures:

  • 14 weeks of fully paid maternity leave for all female employees, regardless of local legislation.
  • 4 weeks of fully paid paternity leave, available in all countries where we operate, even where local regulations only provide for a few days.
  • 12 months’ gross salary paid in the event of death or permanent and total disability, guaranteeing financial security for our employees and their families worldwide.
  • 75% of hospitalization expenses covered for all employees, whatever their place of work.
  • As of January 1st 2025, all ENGIE entities worldwide will be fully compliant with the 4 key pillars of the program. Our concrete action with regard to parenting, invalidity, hospitalization and life cover ensures a harmonized level of social protection thus benefiting thousands of employees.
